DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2: Change LED and LED Driver

Part Number: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA3005

Dear Ladies and Gentleman,

For our application we need much stronger illumination. Therefore we think to exchange the LEDs. However the inbuilt LED driver deliver not enough current for the planned LEDs.(16A but we need 32A). Is it possible to run the projector with an external LED driver?

Best regards,

Sebastian

  • Hello Sebastian,

Unfortunately, this EVM doesn't support external LED driver.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Sebastian,

I would like to add that if you design a custom board with appropriate trace widths, adequate heat sinking, and proper LEDs and FETs, the DLPA3005 can be used up to 32A. This has not been done on the EVM itself however.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • Hello Kyle,

Thank you very much for your answer. So the normal GUI control allows maximum values of 16A. How it can be set to higher values?

Actual we want to create static monochromate images. Would it also possible to shut down the other LEDs by default and then illuminating blue light by a higher Power LED via an external LED driver independent from the chipset of the EVM?

    Best,

    Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

As Kyle mentioned "if you design a custom board with appropriate trace widths, adequate heat sinking, and proper LEDs and FETs, the DLPA3005 can be used up to 32A" in this case we can provide you the support to achieve your goal.

But, As i mentioned... unfortunately, this EVM doesn't support external driver.

    Thanks,
    Navneet
