DLP2000: Not booting as intended

Hello,

I recently bought a DLP Lightcrafter 2000 EVM, but when I connect it to an appropriate power supply, there is no evidence of it working as I don't see a Splash Screen or anything. The D2 LED comes on and stays on, nothing else happens. It also only boots when I touch the device in any way, otherwise it's doesn't even turn on D2.

I came across another thread about basically the same problem ( http://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp/f/94/t/823794?DLP2000-LightCrafter-will-not-display-Splash-Screen- ) and was wondering what to do next.

    Welcome to the E2E forums, and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

    You mention that the system "only boots when I touch the device". Can you describe what you are doing here? It sounds like you may have a loose connection somewhere? Here are some questions from me:

    > Where are you touching the device that makes it boot?

    > Have you reseated the DMD data flex cable and LED flex cables?

    > Are you powering the system standalone or with a host processor (such as the BeagleBone Black or Raspberry Pi)?

    > Do you have anything else connected to the EVM?

    Thanks for your response! On the DLP, the D2 LED turns on when I connect it directly from the power supply and when I touch the pins on the left side, around pin 19 I think (based on )

    I have not reseated anything as I don't really know what that entails.

    The system is powered standalone and nothing is connected to it.

    There could be a number of different potential issues here:

    > If your power supply is incorrect, then the system will not boot (or potentially become damaged if the supply is rated too high). Check to ensure you are using a 5V, 3A DC supply

    > The LED is stuck at D2 on usually when the system cannot detect the optical engine. If this is the source of the issue, you need to verify that both of the flex cables that connect the PCB to the optical engine are secure (and consider reseating them by disconnecting them and reconnecting them again).

    It could be that when you touch the board you are tripping the PROJ_ON_EXT pin. This pin is a soft reset for the device, which could cause the behavior you are seeing if you are somehow pulling it up or down.

    Sorry for my late response! I have since ordered a second unit, which works without any issue. I would, however, like to fix the first unit as I have paid for it and can't "just return it" I guess.

    I'm still none the wiser on what the problem is, so any further help would be appreciated.

    If you have a second system available, the best way to debug this issue would be to compare the two units to determine whether a part on the faulty system is damaged.

    For starters, I recommend you check the schematic for the DLPDLCR2000EVM:

    Try verifying the output of all power regulators (page 2) and determining whether any are not driving the correct voltage. You can check the schematic here or simply verify the same nodes on your working system for comparison purposes. For other signals, you can verify them by comparing to the power-up timing diagram in the DLPC2607 datasheet (section 9.2):

    If a generic component is responsible for a fault in the power-up, you may be able to repair the system with a new part.
