DLPLCR4500EVM: Changing the DLP4500

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4500, DLPC350

Hello,

I have a DLP4500 DMD from a shorted driver board. If I plug the DMD into a new board is there any chance it may damage it?

Thanks,

Dillon Kopecky

  • Hi Dillon,

What do you mean by new board, did you design your custom board based on DLPC350 ?

Also when you say damaged board, what is damaged in the board ?

Is DMD good or you do not know the DMD's current state.

If you think DMD is good and your board is the same as previous designed board (which is now damaged) and also you are sure this board is good then yes you can use the same DMD.

    Thanks,

    Navneet

  • Navneet,

I purchased a replacement board exactly the same as the original.

The previous board suffered from an accidental short which damaged some capacitors.

I don't know the DMD's state and wanted to check it. However, I don't want to damage my new driver board if there is a chance.

    Thanks,

    Dillon Kopecky

  • Hi Dillion,

Since you only damaged/shorted the BOARD and not the DMD, there is a chance that DMD may survive. You can try using this DMD with your new board, it is unlikely that a damaged DMD will damage the board. Just to be sure, it is good if before plugging in you can check the DMD power supply and GND pins to make sure they are not shorted inside the DMD.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hirak.
