DLP4710EVM-LC: Cannot "Get" controller version with the "DLP LightCrafter Display" - related to "display patterns" and "splash images" problems?

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA3005, DLPC3439, DLP4710LC

Hi,

I have just started to look at my recently purchased DLP4710EVM-LC. Stuff like video via HDMI works etc.

However, when I installed the "DLP LightCrafter Display" (v7.4) on my PC and connect to the EVM I get the error message below when it tries to read the information on the EVM.

DMD version can be read, however. And "EVM Status" is "Ready".

What does this mean? Is it a hardware fault? What can be done about it? Is there a specific controller software update that I can try?

I cannot use the different test options in the "DLP LightCrafter Display" software such as displaying patterns or changing splash images etc. The display on the screen then turns "black" at first "Set", and my guess is that this problem is related to the problem of not being able to read the controller- and PMIC/LED Driver- version. Do you agree? (these should be DLPC3439 and DLPA3005)

The "update firmware" function works however, so I've updated it twice from a backup on my PC. No errors occurred or was displayed during update but still no change in behaviour.

I would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Björn E

  • Hi Bjorn,

I think you are facing this issue because you have not installed the correct GUI version. Please install the GUI from the following link-   http://www.ti.com/tool/DLPDLC-GUI. Let us know if you face any issues even after re-installing the GUI.

    Regards,

    Mayank

  • Hi Mayank,

    Thanks for the answer.

I downloaded the DLPPicoDisplayAndLightControl.2.2.0.5.Setup file, installed it and ran it connected to the EVM according to instructions.

There are still problems. Now, the controller name (DLPC3379) was fetched, but not the DMD or PMIC/LED Driver (image 1):

Furthermore, the problems with the Test patterns and Splash image remain (image 2)

Also, it says that EVM Status is "Not connected" ???

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    BR /Björn

  • Hi Bjorn,

Make sure you are using the latest firmware available here : http://www.ti.com/tool/DLP4710EVM-LC

Once there is no power to EVM you will see "EVM Status: Not connected".

Toggle switch SW28, now also you will see "EVM Status: Not connected" -> click on "EVM Status: Not connected" or restart the GUI -> now you will see "EVM Status: Connected, powered Off".

Now you update the correct firmware, get it from above link (I am suspecting you might have updated the display EVM firmware in this EVM, as you were using Display light crafter GUI, if this is not the case then no need to update firmware..... for safe side I would suggest you may program the latest firmware)

Once successful program firmware  -> press the SW21 switch -> displays splash screen -> click on  "EVM Status: Connected, powered Off" or restart the GUI -> you will see " EVM Status: Ready: Splash Screen

    Thanks,

    Navneet

  • Hi Navnet, thanks

Sorry but I seem to miss something here. I can get the EVM ready for firmware upload, according to your instructions above, and using the "update firmware" feature on the "DLP4710LC_2.2.0.5" software on my PC, but I cannot find the correct .img file on your website that shall be used with it??? I've downloaded all software/firmware associated with the DLP4710EVM from TI.com. The only file I have that is acceptable by the "update firmware" function is the backuped file that I ran in the beginning but that one seems to be corrupt now..
