LightCrafter Display3000 Camera synchronization

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

It's very simple, really.  I have a color camera with external sync capability and I wish to sync it up to the projector so that I can monitor the projector video remotely.  All I need to know is where I can access the projector VSYNC signal on the DLP3000 eval kit PCB.  I can take it from there if I need to buffer or level shift it.  Thanks,  Dave

  • Hello David,

A change in the firmware is necessary to be able to access the VSYNC signal. I can send you the new ARM Embedded Software via email. Can you please provide an email address?

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Sure, it is: nashman@seattlephotonics.com

    This is great news!

Please send any particular instructions regarding the software loading process as well.

    Thanks very much,

    Dave

  • Hi David,

I split your thread off from the LightCrafter3010 forum where you had originally posted. For future reference, this thread originated here: e2e.ti.com/.../1539617

The LightCrafter has specific output triggering cabability enabled by default. Please take a look at section 2.6 Triggering External Peripherals of the user's guide (www.ti.com/.../dlpu006) for more information on how to configure the settings. Note that output triggering can only be enabled if the EVM is in either "Stored Pattern Sequence" mode or "External Streaming Pattern Sequence" while in "HDMI Port" mode.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Does this mean I can't access the VSYNC signal while we are displaying video through the HDMI port?
  • Hi David,

The VSYNC signal used by the DLPC300 is the FPGA_OUT_VSYNC signal. You can access this signal from the unpopulated R289 pad connected to this signal (pad furthest from the edge of the PCB). This is located on the bottom side of the top (system) board. It's in the area on the other side of the J7 connector. For reference, take a look at the LightCrafter schematics (http://www.ti.com/LCRdesigndoc).

However, I would recommend using our trigger signals for synchronizing with your camera. Depending on how you are using the LightCrafter, you may have several patterns (up to 24) for one VSYNC signal. There is also delay in VSYNC signals and other nuances in the system pattern display timing. This is why we provide the trigger signals.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Nadine,

Can you please send me ARM embedded software to access the VSYNC signal again please?  I have lost the original.   Please send it to : dnash@intven.com

    Thanks very much,

    Dave
