DLP 3000 overcurrent

Hi,

I used a 5V with 6A power supply for a DLP3000. It doesn't work anymore. (Right now I know the correct power supply should be 5V with 2-3 A.)

Can I fix it and how?

Thank you.

  • Hi Kaikai,

Using a power supply that is capable of supplying 6A doesn't mean that the Lighcrafter actually draws the full current. It is quite unlikely that you damaged the Lightcrafter with overcurrent.

Can you provide any more details about your lightcrafter - did you have any other symptoms before it broke? Or did you just plug it in one day it doesn't work?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for replying. I want to correct and add some information.
1, The power supply I was using is 12V with 6.67A. It was an AC/DC switching adapter.
2, I remember when I connected the 12V-6.67A adapter to the lightcrafter, the LED indicator of the adapter was blinking, the lightcrafter didn't display the TI Logo. Actually, no light comes out.
3, When I used a 5V with 3A power supply, the light crafter didn't display the TI Logo. No light comes out.

I tested today and found that:
When I connect a 5V with 3A power supply to the light crafter, there is a LED near the power socket flashing on and off red. The LED should be D3 on the bottom PCB board.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
    Sincerely,
  • Ah, so 12V is definitely a problem. The device does have some overvoltage protection, but it is possible that you've fried the device.

Use LED D3 (on the bottom board) to help decode your issue:

    ON Time OFF Time  Failure
1 sec 10 secs LED_ENABLE (pin 1 of U11) got triggered because LED_ANODE voltage is greater than 5.8V
5 sec 500 msec  SYSPWR Voltage falls to less than 2.7V or greater than 5.2 V
1.5 secs  1 sec  Overheat shutdown, GREEN LED thermistor temperature is greater than 70C

Can you connect your Lightcrafter to the GUI?

    -Paul

  • Hi Paul,

The LED D3 is on every second, but only lasts about 0.1 second.

I cannot connect the Lightcrafter to the GUI. I uinstalled the DLP LightCrafter Control - 4.0.1.

    Thank you.
  • Can you reinstall the latest control software? Unfortunately I don't have many suggestions for you and it's hard to say what would need fixing. 12V is a large amount of overvoltage and most likely that is what fried your Lightcrafter.

    Paul
  • Hi Paul,

I will reinstall the software and test it again.

If the device is fried, does that mean it can't be fixed and I need a new one?
  • Unfortunately yes.

    Paul
