DLPC410: DLP Discovery 4100 Chipset. Image has horizontal black bars.

Part Number: DLPC410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA200, TMS320F2808

I have a DLP projector using the TI DLP Discovery 4100 Chipset. The image has recently developed evenly spaced horizontal black bars across the image. The rest of the image is still displaying but flickers. Has anyone experienced this error before who can maybe shed some light into what ICs I should look at replacing?

Here are the IC's I have on the board.

DAD2000 (Now called DLPA200)

PMD1000

TMS320f2808

I'm not sure what controller is on the board.

  • Chris,

How wide are these bars.  If they are about 1/16 of the DMD for the 0.7" XGA or the 0.55" XGA then this is almost certainly an issue with the MBRST lines (micromirror reset lines).  This could be an issue with the ends of flex cable where they contact the controller board or the DMD board.  Clean, reseat and tighten the connectors.

If you have recently taken the DMD off the DMD board, then it could be the DMD interposer and pads for the 0.7" XGA or the LIF (low insertion force) socket for the 0.55" XGA.

  • Thanks for the info. I believe I'm using the .96" DMD with a full resolution of 1920 x 1200. This setup does not use the ribbon cables. Everything is located on board. I will try cleaning the contacts where the board joins the DMD.

The black bars are larger than 1/16 of the total image. I would say they take up 50% of the total image. Imaging a perfectly spaced horizontal black and white striped image. Only, the "white" stripes are the actual video signal. This makes me think I'm only getting half of the signal to the DMD.

What other pieces of the 4100 chipset could be causing this kind of failure? I've already ruled out signal input cards.

  • Chris this is very likely not a D4100 chipset device.  I actually meant how much does each band cover not cumulative.  This may be something completely different since it is not a configuration we are familiar with.  There are more than 16 stripes, so it is not likely an MBRST issue.

Is this inside a projector?  If so you need to contact the manufacturer of the projector.  If it is an offering from one of our Design Partners, you will need to reach out to them since this is not one of our standard offerings.
