DLPLCR9000EVM: Precaution measure while using in video mode.

As written in manuals for higher usable life of DMD the landed duty cycle should be close to 50/50. It can be easily achieved in pattern modes by putting opposite patterns in between but it doesn't seem to be a good idea in video mode. I wanted to know what measures should we take for higher usable life in video mode.

Hello Aditya,

First, welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E forums.

You are correct that in video mode, it is not practical to keep track of the history of each pixel. Here are some options:

If the video content has average R, G, B (8,8,8 - bit) levels around 128 then nothing is needed.
If the video content has average values far away from the middle:
- Display content with the opposite average (i.e. 255 - avg) for an equal period of time
- Display 50/50 content for periods when not actively using the content
If the averages are unknown, then use the 50/50 content during inactive periods to push the average toward center.

It is also dependent on temperature of the DMD, which is driven by illumination power and heat sink solution.

For how long we can keep a same pattern on DMD without the risk of loosing usable lifetime of device?
