DLPLIGHTCRAFTER: Jitter in the Output pattern of DLP lightcrafter

Part Number: DLPLIGHTCRAFTER

I am shining a low power laser beam onto the DLPLIGHTCRAFTER. What I observe is that I get a constant jitter in the output of the lightcrafter. There is a similar issue here:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/advanced_light_control/f/850/t/326649?tisearch=e2e-quicksearch&keymatch=test%20pattern%20fluctuations\

but the main difference is that I have fluctuations in the position of the output beam (as shown in the video below):

Also, these fluctuations continue to happen even when I switch of the DMD. They do not occur when replacing the DMD with a mirror, but occur when any test image pattern is loaded.

  • Hi Varun,
Welcome to DLP forum and thank you for your interest in DLP technology.

DMD mirrors are not in stationary position even when it is displaying a static pattern. They are continuously switching at a very high speed. A typical DMD based display system also modulates light source to prevent light reflection when mirrors are in transition.
In this test condition , the light source is constantly on and it reflects stray light during mirror transition.

    Hope this explains .
    regards,
    Vivek
  • Thank you so much for your reply. Is it possible then, to keep the mirrors stationary? Will keeping the device in the pattern sequence mode keep the mirrors stationary?

    Sincerely,
    Varun
  • Hi Varun,
DMD are not designed to operate that way. For reliable operation , mirrors need to switch and refresh periodically.
