DLPLCR4500EVM: Help with Removing Heatsink for UV LED Modification

Hello,

I am trying to replace the blue LED in the LighCrafter 4500 EVM with a UV LED as per the modifications instructions for the TIDA-00293 reference design. After removing the 4 philips screws as directed in step 4 of the DLP LightCrafter 4500 Modification Instructions, I found that the heat sink was very well bonded to the light engine and I was unable to separate the two. 

Is there a trick to this? Do you have any tips for easily separating these two components without damaging the unit?

    Hi Alex,

    Thanks for your question and welcome to the DLP forums. Hopefully others will chime in about their experiences but all I can tell you is to go slowly and carefully so you don't damage the flex. You might try an using an exacto knife to break the glue along the edges.

    If you look at this thread, you can see pictures of what the engine looks like with the heatsink off - it might give you some ideas:

    For any of those who may experience the same difficulties, the method that worked for us in the end was to use a sharpened flat head screwdriver to pry between the aluminum base plate and the short side of the LED retaining bracket.
