DLPLCR4500EVM: Firmware Upload Error "Unable to read flash manufacturer ID"

Hello,

I basically have the same issue which I cannot fix in any way suggested in this thread or others.
I could upload a new firmware the 1st time I used my DLP LightCrafter 4500, but after that no way to have it done.
Anytime I try to do it, I get the following error: "Unable to read flash manufacturer ID".
Plus, the LightCrafter 4500 green blinking light turns off and makes it impossible to use it again unless I unplug and plug back in the power supply.
I've uninstalled the GUI software and resintalled it back, rebooted the device and software, disconnected and reconnected the USB cable, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and made sure the file "FlashDeviceParameters.txt" is in the same directory as the .exe file.
Still nothing.

I would be really thankful if you could help me out with that.

Best,

Marco

  • Hi Marco,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your question. Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Lightcrafter 4500. It sounds like you've taken a lot of positive steps to try to diagnose this issue.

Can you tell me what operating system you're using? Sometimes users have trouble on Win10. If you're able to find a Win7 machine and try it out, that would be a big hint.

Otherwise, let me check on a couple things:
    * Have you modified your board at all?
    * Did you change any positions of jumpers on the board?
    * Can you try a shorter or higher quality USB cable?
    * How long have you had your EVM?

  • Hi Paul,

thanks for your answer and sorry for my late reply.

Please find below the answers to your questions:

    * Have you modified your board at all?
    Not at all.

    * Did you change any positions of jumpers on the board?
    Nope.

    * Can you try a shorter or higher quality USB cable?
I have tried it with the same USB cable and another PC (with the same operating system as mine) and it works just fine.I could produce a bitmap image, upload it and display it.

    * How long have you had your EVM?
I have had for roughly 3 weeks now.

    Best,
    Marco
  • Thanks Marco for your replies. Diagnosing this issue is a difficult one - we've been hearing about it but haven't seen it here on any of our machines. Do you use Win10 or Win7?

It sounds like the normally advised step of uninstalling the drivers and letting them resinstall automatically you've already done.
Can you try the steps that folks took in this thread to see if they work for you?

  • Is there a working solution for this issue on Windows 8.1 yet? None of the above has worked for me including the modified version of the GUI.
  • Hi Mike,

Moving forward, we won't be supporting Windows 8, only Win10. No concrete fixes yet, but it is on our list to look at and address. My apologies for the inconvenience caused.

    Best,
    Paul
