Interface between Arduino Program and DLP 4500 beamer

Hello all,

I am using the DLP 4500 as the beamer for my DLP 3D printer. I have understood the process of loading a firmware into flash memory and running the images in Pattern sequence or Video mode and in general working with the beamer. However I would like to know how an interface could be created between Arduino and the beamer.

I would want my Arduino Program to control the LED to turn on only when it has to print a layer. I prefer this interface in my system only so that the whole printing operation can be sequenced in one program . I had referred to the manual for DLP 4500 UV beamer as well as the reference guide to the DLP 3D printer design by Texas Instruments, but couldn't find anything on controlling from Arduino.

It will be highly appreciated if someone could help me with this.

Welcome to the E2E forums, and thanks for your interest in our DLP technology.

Most of our controllers are USB and I2C compatible. While the USB interface is typically used by the Windows GUI software provided with the system, the I2C protocol can interface with any I2C-capable host processor. In your case, you should use the Arduino's I2C capability to interface with the DLPC350 (which is the controller for the DLP4500). A list of commands (such as LED control) can be found in the DLPC350 programmer's guide (here):

Hi,

Sorry just one more question. I see the I2C pins on the beamer are too small and on checking I found that they have 1.25 mm pitch, so I cant use regular jumper wires. Do you have a suggestion on what type of female jumper to look for?

Anish,

No problem. Have you tried checking for 1.25 mm pitch jumper wires? You may need to fashion custom wires with a crimper if necessary.
