TIDA-00362: Spatial Light Modulator

Part Number: TIDA-00362
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPLCR4500EVM, TIDA-00384, TIDA-00325

Hi,

I would like to use the digital micromirror device as the spatial light modulator (SLM) which is illuminated by the external laser source.
Could you please give me any suggestions about what kind of component I should to buy to construct it? Or if there’s some exited designs for this purpose so that I can purchase that directly?

  • Hello Fan,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E community.

I don't know what resolution you need, but I would suggest one of the LightCrafter series (link --> DLPLCR4500EVM).  The LightCrafter4500 EVM is very capable, but would require removing the optical engine for you to use with laser.  It is around $1300 from the TI eStore.  Follow the link above and go down to "Order Now".

If you need higher resolution or an engine that does not have optics already, a good choice might be the LightCrafter6500 EVM (link --> DLPLCR6500EVM).  It is around $2000 from the TI eStore.  Again follow the link above and go down to "Order Now".  This EVM come with no optical engine and is a great starting point for working with lasers.

I hope this helps.  Let us know if you have further questions.

  • Dear Fizix,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I wonder if I could use the TIDA-00384 (http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00384?keyMatch=null&tisearch=tidesigns) or TIDA-00325 (http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00325?keyMatch=null&tisearch=tidesigns) as the SLM by removing its optical engine?

  • Hello Fan,

This may be possible, I do not know for sure.  Some of the video engines are not really designed to have the optical engine removed easily.

This engine will be video input so you would have to be able to load what you need in a video stream.  The advantage of the ALC solutions is that they are designed to allow "pixel accurate" inputs.  For that I suggest the LightCrafter4500 EVM (DLPLCR4500EVM).
