DLPLCR9000EVM: Image file upload failure

Part Number: DLPLCR9000EVM

Hi,

I recently purchased DLPLCR9000EVM. After operating with some internal test patterns, I thought it works but just found I can't upload pattern images from my pc. To be more precise, I made binary pattern images, 2560x1600 size, and added it on the pattern-on-the-fly mode in the provided software. Interestingly, when I upload an image of all on (which '1') it works. But if I added an image of mixture of '0' and '1' (random pattern) it stops with an popup stating 'Uploading to EVM : 0%', then the program freezes with Master Red light starts to blink on the DLPC900 board. Tested with one of the pattern images in 'C:\Texas Instruments-DLP\DLPC900REF-SW-3.0.0\DLPC900REF-GUI\LCR9000_Images' and still it made the same problem. So the problem is not from the format of image files that I generated.

Thought it might be firmware issue and updated firmware version to 4.0.0. Still it did not fix the problem. What is going on in the system?

Btw, what is the phone number for technical customer service? I can't find it.

Best,

Jong

  • Hello Jong,

Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E community.

For the EVM kits, this is our support path. If you purchased the EVM through one of our Design Partners you can also ask them for support.

Be aware that the system uses compression to load and store images on the board. So that the “all on” images takes almost no room to store (i.e. – row 1 = 0 repeat 2560 times,  repeat row 1600 times) and therefore almost no time to transfer.

    Other patterns will take longer.

However, from your description it seems that something is going wrong since you have a light that begins flashing red.

Is this light the one labeled D6 in Figure 1-7. DLP LightCrafter 9000 Connectors (page 17) of the DLP® LightCrafter™ 6500 and 9000 EVM User's Guide?  --> Link:  http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu028c/dlpu028c.pdf

  • Jong,

One more thing - try a different USB cable, different computer (different in model also) and both, if you haven't done so already.

  • Hi Fizix,

I purchased this model directly from TI via Digikey.

Yes, the blinking red light is from D6.

    Best,

    Jong

  • Is it constantly blinking or is there a pattern? - It is a group of long pulses (up to four) followed by short pulses (up to 8) then a long pause and then repeat.

  • Hi Fizix,

I tried with a different usb cable in a different computer, still does not work with the same syptom.

The blinking at D6 has a pattern. ' ~_~_~_~__~___' where ~ is red light on and _ is time for off.

  • Hello Jong,

We have a document in process that will be released in the near future which gives a description for the flash codes.

This code 4-1 is "Data access error".  We will have to look what could be causing this error and get back with you.

  • Hi Fizix,

I can give you a temporary remote access permission to my computer via Teamviwer if you want to check the system. If that works out for you, please let me know your contact info.
