DLPC900: DLPC900

Part Number: DLPC900

Hi,

We designed DLP6500 projector based on the  LightCrafter 6500 EVM. But recently, the flash memory M29DW128G70NF6E is out of stock.

So we must replace the flash M29DW128G70NF6E. As the file "FlashDeviceParameters" which TI suggested, I got the flash MT28EW128ABA1H and MT28EW256ABA1H. Now I used the flash MT28EW256ABA1H to replace the flash M29DW128G70NF6E. I found a strange problem, when I programed the DLPC900 firmware 2.0, the DLP6500 projector is working abnormally and the pattern mode can't display, but when I programmed the DLPC900 firmware 4.2, the DLP6500 projector works normally with the pattern mode. Another problem is existing, if I have programed the firmware 2.0 to the flash MT28EW256ABA1H, I can't program the firmware again and the GUI will be unresponsive or can't enter the program mode. So I want to know whether I can use the flash MT28EW128ABA1H or MT28EW256ABA1H to replace the flash M29DW128G70NF6E.

Another need to be noticed, the DLPC900 chips are purchased recently. I am not sure whether upgrade the DLPC900 chip so that we must program the firmware 4.0 or later.

Thanks for any help.

Best regards,

Kelly Yang

  • Hi Kelly,

Sorry about your trouble, we are aware of the recent flash EOL’s and recommend contacting Micron for drop in replacements on this EVM. Before doing so, can you clarify if you changed your “FlashDeviceParameter.txt” correctly to match your flash as newer devices usually have a different sector layout. I have linked a few threads that go into some further detail on this (#1 successfully uses MT28EW256ABA1LJS part and #2 is the MT28EW512ABA1LJ which both are similar parts to yours):

    1) e2e.ti.com/.../639643
    2) e2e.ti.com/.../2355639

However, it seems that the problem can be fixed by updating to the latest firmware 4.2 found at the link below:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/dlpr900

Are you running into any other problems using firmware 4.2?

    Regards,

    Taylor
  • Hi, Taylor

Yes, I am sure that I have changed my  “FlashDeviceParameter.txt” correctly to match the flash MT28EW128ABA1H and MT28EW256ABA1H. The DLPC900 can boot and the projector can display video and pattern with the firmware 4.2. But when I program back the firmware 2.0, all the pattern mode couldn't display. I am very curious to understand what the difference between firmware 2.0 and firmware 4.2.

Another question is when program the DLPC900 bootloader using the JTAG tool, it runs into a indication as the picture as below:

If I ignored the indication, the DLPC bootloader program is also successful. Can you support me what means shown as the picture?

    Thanks,

    Kelly

  • Hi Kelly,

I am reaching out to my team to understand the source of that error, so please give me a couple days to get back to you on that one. However, one more thing to try is that there is a second “FlashDeviceParameters.txt” file in "C:\Texas Instruments-DLP\DLPC900REF-SW-3.0.0\DLPC900REF-JTAG" that you will also need to change to match your flash if you are using the FlashProgrammer.exe tool in that directory. The error seems to indicate something is wrong with this file so if that doesn’t work, you may copy and paste your .txt file here and I will double check it for you.

  • Hi Kelly,

After speaking with my team, we believe the error can be ignored as it is just letting you know that you have overridden the flash algorithm with your “flashdeviceparameters.txt” file. As for firmware 2.0, it is likely that it was meant to be used only with the old part/flash settings and may not have any info about this new part. From what I gather, firmware 4.2 has information embedded about both parts and therefore may be your only option when using this flash.

Sorry for the inconvenience and let me know if I can answer any other questions. Feel free to still send your .txt file if you’d like and I will check it.

    Best Regards,

    Taylor
