Flex Cable on Lightcrafter

Hi,

I need to have a flex cable between the DMD and the Lightcrafter controller Board. I was planning on removing the middle board with the Aces connector on it and plugging into the Panasonic connector on the back of the DMD with support. What is the best way to do this?

    Hi Ryan,

    Unfortunately, a commercial cable does not exist for this particular chipset. You will have to develop a custom cable and a PCB connector to match your specific requirements. I will be glad to help you with the design layout. Can you give me some background on your applicatiion, so I can help you better.

    What we are trying to do is add a flex cable about 2 or 3 cm long going from the back of the DMD to the lightcrafter kit. I have the document that provies the signal matching requirements. I'm just wondering what is the best way to layout the flex?

    Ryan,

    Here are some recommendations for the DMD flex cable:

    DMD_VCC traces at leas 0.05" wide. Combined they carry up to 50mA current (average). Up to 2.25A current spikes from decoupling capacitors. Ideally DMD_VCC can be a power plane.

    VREF, VOFS, VRST, VBIAS traces at least 0.015" wide. They carry up to 2mA currents (average). Up to 600mA current spikes from decoupling capacitors. Make these traces wider if possible.

    Signal traces at least 0.003" wide and have a 50 ohms +/- 10% matched impedance. Make these traces wider if possible. Minimum of 2X distance between the signal traces. Ideally, 3X distance between them, wherever possible, compared to signal trace width. Place ground traces between DMD_Dx signal traces wherever possible. 

    Use top layer for the DMD_VSS ground plane at the connector.

    0.1uF decoupling capacitors are placed on the bottom layer as close as possible to their respective connector pins (DMD_VCC, VREF, VBIAS, VOFS, VRST). At least two 0.1uF decoupling capacitors for DMD_VCC. Add extra capacitor footprints between other DMD_VCC pins and DMD_VSS if space permits. Capacitors with smallest footprints are chosen in order to fit the DMD flex and for lowest ESL.
