Failure to display pattern sequence

Hi,

I am able to display static patterns through the lightcrafter GUI, however whenever I try to implement a pattern sequence, the command fails. Any idea what could cause this? I believe I am following the instructions correctly.

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

have you tried to load 8Bit grey level images rather than 24Bit color images? I went through the same problem and could make it work by using 8Bit images...

    Erik

  • Hi Erik,

Thanks for the reply. You are right. "Pattern Sequence" display mode is meant for 1 - 8 bit images and 24 bit images can only be uploaded through "Static Image" display mode.

    Hi Daniel,

Also make sure that you are in 'Auto' trigger mode and selecting the right number of patterns in the GUI as shown in the below image (this will give a 'Command Failure' message if not selected correctly).

    Hope this helps!

    Best Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

I have a similar problem. Static images with 24Bit color depth can be easily loaded and displayed. However, when i tried to load and display pattern sequence,  i get the "Command Failure" error after pressing "Start" button. I tried 608x684 images with 8Bit and 1Bit color depth. My settings are as follows:

Do you have any idea about this error?

    Thanks,

    Emrah

  • This problem occurs after booting the lightcrafter a couple of times. I don't know the actual reason. It works now after being able to save the patterns as a "Solution" once.

    Thanks,

    Emrah

  • Hi Emrah,

Welcome to DLP section of TI E2E community!

Thanks for the update. I am able to reproduce your error on one of the Lightcrafter. I would like to check the code to see where the error is populating and what is causing it.

    I appreciate your patience.

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Emrah,

Could you please upload the 1-bit and 8-bit patterns you have created, so I can test them.

    Thanks,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

    Here are the patterns:

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3436610/vertical_patterns_8.rar

    Best regards,

  • Hi Emrah,

Sorry for the delayed response. Were you able to display these patterns?

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Divya, I am having trouble loading pattern sequence... besides 1bit/8bit gray scale images, is there other constraints?

Is it possible you post a sample pattern sequence that I can download and try?

    Thanks,

    Regards, Bing

  • Hi Bing,

Please find attached 1-bit and 8-bit patterns for your reference. Make sure to set the "Pattern Settings" first and then upload the images.

  • Divya, thanks a lot for the heads up. It works fine now.

  • Hi Divya,

I can't upload 4 images, whose bit depth is 1 or 8. I first have set Pattern Sequence, Bit Depth , Pattern Count ,Input Trigger, then upload all, but it doesn't work. Just as the following  figure,  I want to know where the mistake is, Please help me.

  • Hi Dongliang,

Welcome to DLP & MEMS Section of TI E2E Community!

Did you load more than 4 patterns before the above sequence? I am asking because there is a known issue in the LightCrafter GUI v3.8.

The "Command Failed" error pops-up in Pattern Sequence mode when loading less patterns than what was loaded the entire time LightCrafter is "ON", irrelevant
of the pattern bit-depth. Reboot the LightCrafter and GUI to successfully upload patterns.

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi,

I cannot get my 1-bit patterns to upload to the device in pattern sequence mode.  I get a command FAILED message every time.  If I use "Display This"  I get a garbage image on the wrong led.

    Here are my settings:

  • Morgan,

Welcome to the DLP & MEMS E2E forum.

Is this your screen capture? Do you see an LED color other than red? Did you press "Set" before trying the "Display This"?

Have you verified your image properties? Right click on the  xxx.bmp file; select "Properties"; select the "Details" tab. Make sure:

    Dimensions 608 x 684

    Width 608 pixels

    Height 684 pixels

    Bit Depth 1

Also make sure that the number of patterns which you select matches the number you specified in the "Pattern Count" box.

  • I am having problems with displaying patterns as well. Except mine start much earlier. When I set the correct pattern parameters: Bit depth, pattern count, input trigger, etc, and then try to press Set button it always comes back with "Command FAILED" error message. I tried this many times with different parameters and command always fails. Internal patterns and static images are displayed correctly. Any thoughts?

  • Hi Gary,

    Welcome to TI E2E Community!

What are the version numbers of the FPGA and DM365 on your LightCrafter?

Can you check if you have R205 installed on the systems board (beside the DM365)?

The DM365 version 3.31 and above require this resistor due to an added feature (Extended pattern sequence mode) in the software. Also, make sure your images are 608x684 resolution.

If possible, can you also test the 8-bit images attached earlier in the same post?

    Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

Thank you for your response. The DM365 version is 3.31 and FPGA version is 2.4.39. The R205 resistor is installed. Both 8-bit and 1-bit images that you provided in the post above do not work. In fact the FAILED message comes before I get to uploading the images, when I press the Set button. If I try to upload the images without setting up the patter I can see them in the dialog. The Upload All button does not give me any feedback and Upload This or Display This button crash the GUI.

    Regards,

    Gary.

  • Hi Gary,

If you are using GUI v4.0.1 with DM365 v3.31, you will see the Command Failed error when changing the pattern sequence settings. Which version of the GUI are you using and on which OS?

If you are using GUI v3.8 and still seeing this issue, can you upgrade your DM365 to v4.0 and FPGA to v2.6.43.

The latest software version is DLP LightCrafter Firmware and Software Bundle v2.0.1 dated 6/14/2013.

The DLPLightCrafterFWSW directory has the binary files. Readme file in the same folder has instructions to upgrade the software.

     Regards,

    Divya

  • Hi Divya,

Problem got resolved after upgrading DN365 to v4.0.

    Thank you,

    Gary.

  • Hi Divya

I have 3 questions about usual pattern sequnce mode and one about extended sequence please,

    1. I set my display mode to stored pattern sequence and enter sequence settings and set them for 4 images, but I can't receive any sequence order of images on DLP lightcrafter becouse of cammand failed error, now is it necessary to upgrade softwares? my GUI version is 5.0.0 from downloaded zip file version DLPLCr_FW_SW_v3.0_WIN_12_05_2013.

    2. which version should I download to upgarde my FPGA and DM365?

    3. IS R205 only for extended pattern sequence mode or Is it recommended to instal R205 in addition to upgrading for my problem?

    and extended sequence question please

    4. Is it necessary to cancel installed R205 from DLP board to return to usual pattern sequence display and other display modes from extended pattern mode or not?

Thank you so much in advance,

    Sheida

  • Hi,

I also have a problem in which it will display success to all commands but when I hit start, the pattern is not displayed. If I hit display this it will give me a command failed box. Help please.
