Trouble connecting to LightCrafter/3000 EVM using Control Software

Hi - I am having some trouble connecting to the device from my computer.

1- The device has turned on successfully I believe. It displays blue/green/red gradient and the PCB shows a green/red blinking light.

2- I am able to ping the device on 192.168.1.99:

C:\Windows\System32>ping 192.168.1.99

Pinging 192.168.1.99 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.99: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.99: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

3- I am using Windows 8.1

4- I followed the instructions given in the user's guide and made it use the "Remote NDIS Compatible Device" drivers by Microsoft.

5- I also set the IPv4 properties to the above IP, the 255.255.255.0 subnet and 192.168.1.100 default gateway.

The GUI is unable to connect. I specified the correct address in the connections tab.

I either get nothing from it, or sometimes I get connection error 5. Hitting any of the get buttons gives me "No connection".

Any ideas about what to do next?

Thank you!

  • Hi Antoine,

Thanks for the detailed description of the steps you have taken. To confirm, in the 'Connection' tab of the GUI, you have specified address 192.168.1.100, correct? If not, try this and let us know the outcome.

Can you also provide the IPv4 address, subnet mask and default gateway for the LightCrafter using the command ipconfig /all in a command prompt window? The LightCrafter will be listed as the "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget".

    Thanks,

    Clinton

  • Hi Clinton,

    I tried both 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.99.

  • Hi Antoine,

Thanks for the additional information. Everything seems to match up correctly. A few more questions:

    1. Have you ever been able to successfully connect to the LightCrafter?
      1. If so, can you describe any changes that occurred to your setup between when it worked and now?
    2. Can you try this procedure and let us know the outcome?
      1. Power down the LightCrafter
      2. Unplug the USB connection
      3. Close the GUI
      4. Reconnect the USB cable
      5. Power on the LightCrafter
      6. After the system boots (RGB bars projected), open the GUI
      7. Click the 'Connect' button on the GUI

    Thanks,

    Clinton

  • Between 2c and 2d I would disable all network adapters.

  • Hi Clinton,

    1. I have never been able to successfully connect it.

    2. I tried the procedure and it did not work. I also tried using a different USB port, restarting the PC/LightCrafter, and disabling/enabling the network adapters but it was also unsuccessful. I still get no response or connection error = 5.

What are the next steps? Are there any logs output by the GUI that I can share with you?

    Best

    Antoine
