DLP Lightcrafter Evaluation Model won't display test patterns

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

I have just received my DLP LightCrafter Evaluation Module EVM, but unfortunately it does not display anything, neither boot splash screen nor test patterns.

So far I tried the following.

1) Following the "Quick Start" guide contained in the EVM box. The Module seems to boot up correctly (D1 blinks red and green, D5 switch is green, the other one in the driver bottom board green). However, it has never displayed either the Splash Screen indicating that the system is booting, nor the test pattern that should appear when the boot is complete.

2) I connected the EVM to the PC with the mini-USB cable without problem. However, I can't visualize any of the test patterns. After I set any of the test patterns (both Internal Test Pattern and Stored Pattern Sequence) I always get a "Command SUCCESS" message, however nothing is displayed on the screen.

What do you suggest?

Thank you in advance.

  • 3) I also tried to boot from SD card and I can see the same behavior. The boot appears to be OK since I am able to connect to the EVM via the GUI, however I can't see the splash screen while the DLP is booting. Also, I can't display any test pattern from the GUI.

  • 4) In a previous post mentioning a similar problem (http://e2e.ti.com/support/dlp__mems_micro-electro-mechanical_systems/f/850/t/330139) it was suggested: "If that still doesn't work then you might want to probe Red Green and Blue LED Enables (R42, R43, R44) on the driver board (bottom board) if they are going high."

I did this and all three LEDs are working fine, however no light whatsoever seems to be going out from the projector.

  • 5) The last part of the log file from UART is the following.

  • Hi Fred,

Is this a new LightCrafter module? Are you aware of any prior modifications that could have been made to the device? Could you provide the version numbers for the FW on the DLPC300, DM365 and MSP430? This should be located in the top left corner of the LightCrafter GUI once connected to the platform.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

This is a brand new LightCrafter, so no modifications have been done on the device.

The version numbers displayed by the GUI are the following:
    DM365: 5.0
    FPGA: 2.6.43
    MSP430: 3.0

    Regards,
    Fred

  • Hi Fred,

Those are the up to date versions of all of the FW for the devices on the LightCrafter. I'm looking into your UART log to see what information we can determine from that output.

You mentioned that the internal test patterns and stored pattern sequence do not work for you. Did you try setting a static color (under the static image/ test pattern tab of the GUI)? If not, could you try this and let us know the results.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Clinton,

Nothing can be displayed with this LightCrafter. I can't set a static color either.

As I said in my first post of this thread, not even the splash screen is displayed by this LightCrafter.

    Regards,
    Fred
