DLP LightCrafter EVM Connetion problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

Hi all,

I have a problem with DLP LightCrafter EVM.

Current statue is as following.

When I power on EVM, it shows splash screen. but there is no test pattern after splash screen.

Aafter booting is completed, splash screen just disapears.

During booting, my computer is searching for network connention, but disconneted as soon as the splash screen disapears.

In addition to this, there is light on both System board and Driver board while booting but when the splash screen is gone, the light from System board also gone.(light from driver board still alive)

I tried firmware upgrade but when I inserted SD card, the red light from System board didn't blink. I think firmware upgrade is failed.

Does anyone know what is happening on my LightCrafter? is it broken? :(

Help me out please.

Thanks.

  • Hi Yoobin,

Is this a new LightCrafter? Have any modifications been done on the board previous to these issues?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Thanks for reply Clinton,

I don't know what is a new LightCrafter but mine is like this picture below. I received it last week.

FIrst day : I could connet LightCrafter to GUI (followed by manual). I  tested some Internal Test Pattern and static images.

But still the network connetion was not good. I had to on and off LightCrafter when It disconneted (few minutes period).

I also took apart and reassamble the light engine to driver board to see inside the light engine.

Second day : On and off swich didn't work. I have no idea with this. May be it was broken.

Now I have to connect and remove entire power source to turn it on and off.

Third day : When I swiched on LightCrafter, it showed splash screen and then test pattern (RGB strips).

The test pattern stayed about 10 sec. and gone.

What is interesting is that the Network connection is Ok while the RGB test pattern is shown.

However when the RGB test pattern is gone, the connection is failed.

Today : Symptoms what I discribed above question. It's getting worse......

    Thanks,

    Yoobin.

  • Hi Yoobin,

Are you able to connect to the LightCrafter via the GUI now? If so, could you provide the firmware version numbers for the DM365, DLPC300 and MSP430 located below the 'connect/disconnect' button?

Can you also check that you reassembled and connected everything together correctly. If the LEDs overheat there is a safety feature built into the system to shut down.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hi Yoobin,

Were you able to resolve your issue? If not, could you proceed by providing the details I requested in my previous post?

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Has a solution been found to this issue? I am having this same problem:

When the LightCrafter EVM is connected to power it cycles through the splash screens normally. after this the DMD goes blank and the D1 and D5 LEDs go off. The D3 LED flashes red with a 5 on 5 off pattern which indicates the error "LED anode voltage above 5.8 V" as found in the manual.

I disconnected the light engine several months ago to expose the DMD in order to illuminate it externally. Everything worked fine until about a week ago when the above problem started happening. The LightCrafter software can no longer connect to the EVM. I have also tried updating the firmware from an SD card to v5 as instructed but see no change.

Please let me know if there is a fix to this issue.

    Thanks,

    JP

  • Hi John,

Sounds like you have a different problem. As the LED error indicates, it sounds like there is an issue with your LED circuitry. I would suggested ensuring your light engine was not damaged, the connectors are all seated properly and that you are seeing the expected voltages.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
