LightCrafter MSP430 FFC programming connector wiring

I have an LightCrafter who's MSP430 firmware was corrupted during a firmware update.

I'm trying to figure out the wiring on the FFC programming connector, I've found the schematic in the documentation.

Could you please provide a schematic/diagram on how to wire this up to the MSP-FET430UIF?

I thank you for your time, any help in the matter is much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Kristof

  • Hi Kristof,

Are you interested in the MSP430 programming connector (J6) on the driver board? You mentioned you found the schematics (http://www.ti.com/LCRdesigndoc). That means you saw the signal connections shown on the MSP430 page of the schematics (page 8), correct? Is there some additional information that you are looking for?

You can also take a look at the MSP-FET430UIF user's guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slau278). Specifically at the Figure 2-2. Signal Connections for 2-Wire JTAG Communication and section B.38.6 JTAG Target Connector. From the LightCrafter side, signals SBWTDIO, SBWTCK and MSP_PWR (pins 12, 13 and 14 of the J6 connector), will be what you are interested in connecting.

I'm going to confirm that these are the only signals needed for the JTAG configuration we are using on the board. I'll reply back on this thread.

    Thanks,

    Clinton

  • Hi Kristof,

I confirmed the details of my comments above. Here is some additional information as well:

The MSP_PWR signal is only sampled by the MSP-FET430UIF  to determine if the target board (the LightCrafter driver board in this case) is being powered. This line is not providing power from the MSP-FET430UIF to the MSP430 on the driver board. This means you will need to have the LightCrafter powered (and this connection on the JTAG) to program the MSP430.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
