Dear Sir/ Madam,

For the DLP® LightCrafter™ Evaluation Module, can it be used as a light source on a HUD (Heads Up Display)? How bright is it? Can the oriantation of the displayed image be changed? For example rectangular to trapezoid. Please let me know ASAP. Thank you very much.

  • Hello Danlei,

It is possible to use the DLP® LightCrafter™ Evaluation Module (EVM) as a HUD, although it should be noted that the EVM is meant only as an evaluation module and was not created for use in an end application. DLP has a large design network that can help you turn our EVM into a final product.

As the LightCrafter tool folder page says, the LightCrafter has, "RGB LED light engine with 20L light output"

The shape of the projection can be changed by changing the shape of the images, patterns, or video you send to the LightCrafter.

I hope this helps! In case you have any other questions, I will be moving this thread to the LightCrafter E2E section where your questions will be better addressed.

    Best regards,

    Trevor

  • Danlie,

If you need automatic keystone correction, you may want to consider the DLPC6401 chipset. But for size, the WVGA chipset is smaller and lower cost. It is possible to create an application on the LightCrafter platform using the DM365 (system board) processor, but requires some custom programming. How you get your application data to the DM365 is something you must also consider.
  • Hello Trevor,

Can I use the DLP® LightCrafter™ Evaluation Module (EVM) to project in a windshield? The new models (4710) are capable to do this?
    Thank you!
  • Rafael,

Thanks for your question and welcome to the DLP Forums. Trevor's advice above is correct - the Lightcrafter was meant for evaluation and testing purposes, not necessarily for one application. For specific help, contact our design partners.

It is possible, I suppose, to use the Lightcrafter to project onto a windshield although it may not be optimized for that purpose. As far as I know there is no special functionality required for projection onto a windshield, so any of the EVMs could be used in this way.

    Hope this helps,
    Paul
