How to control the mirror without the LENs

Hi, I really need help.

Our lab brought a DLP LightCrafter 3000, and we would like to use the mirror of the DLP to reflect laser beam to our experiment cell. Please see the  SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL of the paper(arxiv.org/.../1407.7157.pdf)..We do not need the RGB control, just want to control the on/off of each mirror.

First we take the project Len off, so we can target the laser beam to the mirror directly. We push the on/off button, when the state changes from on to off, the reflected laser beam will swift.

Then we want to see such effect using the code or DLP LightCrafter Control Software(5.0.0), but We found it's no way to do this largely due to unfamiliar with the software.  we had tried to Stored Pattern Sequence by picking two image, one full white, another full black, Bit Depth 8, Pattern Type: HW pattern, exposure time 2000000, trigger period 1000000. we expected to see the same effect as we turn on and off the device, but nothing happened.

We tried to use the source code came with the GUI tool installation. For demo 6, we can only see a diffracted do jump.

So, would you please show me how to achieve that?  Thanks!

  • Hi Chunde,

You are on the right path using the Stored Pattern Sequence mode of the LightCrafter GUI. Please adjust your settings as follows:

    Bit Depth: 1
    Pattern Type: Normal
    Input Trigger: Command

If you're just using the 2 patterns, select a pattern count of 2. Make sure you choose the 2 patterns and upload them. Using the 'Command' option for the trigger input will allow you to manually cycle through the patterns with the GUI. If you would like the LightCrafter to trigger on it's own, you can select the 'Auto' option, which I believe you are already using.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thanks,
    Clinton
  • Hello Clinton,

Many thanks for your quick reply. But unfortunately, it does not work. I first use the manually cycle the trigger by setting the trigger to command type, and then click "display this " button to see if any thing change of the diffracted dot pattern on the wall, but nothing happens.  Then I try the auto trigger, and use the HW Pattern, but no luck either.

Here I attached some pictures about our setup

1, I select HW Pattern, the first image is total black

2, the second image is total white

3, The laser shines on the mirror directly

    4, the diffracted dot pattern

  • Hello Clunde,

Could you describe how you are wanting the pattern to change?

For the most part you cannot change the location of the orders, only the relative energy distribution of energy into the orders.  The diffraction pattern is the Fourier transform of the pattern on the mirrors.  Also, how many µ-mirrors does the laser spot cover?

Describing what you are trying to achieve may give some insight on how to get there.

  • Hello, Fizix

Sorry for reply late, we eventually figure out the problem. The mirror was not well contacted, so it would work. We applied a bit pressure on it and then it started to work.

Many thanks for all your help!
  • Hello Clunde,

I'm also kind of doing the same thing. Just want to control the on/off of each mirror by shining the laser. I've followed the same above steps (1 & 2) described by you but couldn't get anything.
Could you please let me know how you figure out the problem ?

    Thanks
    Nitin
  • Hello Nitin,

For our case, the DMD mounted on the circuit board connector was not in well contact, you may try to apply a bit pressure on the frame of the DMD, to see if you see any pattern on it.

    Best wishes

  • Hello Chunde,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Actually, my DMD is working fine when using the "Static Image/Test Pattern" and upload any image from the computer. The problem is whenever I use any other display mode, it doesn't work. So, I was using your setting as discussed in my previous post but it didn't work and the pattern (from the computer) remains there without changing.

    Thanks

    Nitin

  • Hi Nitin,

If you use the the stored sequence pattern, you need to click the "upload All" button to upload images to the device, or when you start the sequence, nothing can be displayed. You may have a try.

    Best wishes

    Chunde
  • Hi Chunde,

Thank you very much for the support. It was the problem of the computer. Now, its working fine.

    Regards
