DLP2010NIR for Navigation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP2010NIR, DLP5500, DLP4500NIR

Hi,

I would like to know if the DLP2010NIR chip is suitable for an application such as pattern generation for navigation. I mean, to generate a NIR pattern that helps to the naviagion system to calculate the distance of the objects and make a 3d map.

Is this chip suitable?

is the DLP5500NIR suitable?

Thanks in advance,

  • Hello Gonzalo,

Thank you for your interest in our DLP Technology. I moved your question into the DLP LightCrafter Development Forum.

You should receive an answer to your question soon.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Gonzalo,

The DLP2010NIR could be depending on how much irradiance you need to put on the chip.  Do you have any estimate of the amount of radiometric NIR power that you would need to put out?

Regarding an NIR version of the DLP5500, it does not exist.  If we see significant market demand for an NIR version of this chip then it will be considered at that time.

  • The application would need to detect objects in around 2-5 meters.
About the DLP5500, it was just a typography error, I wanted to say DLP4500NIR. :)
  • Hello again Gonzalo,

The DLP4500NIR, especially the FQD package will handle considerably more power and would be a much better fit for your situation.

The questions that need to be answered are:

    1. What is the ambient environment that the measurements would be done in?  Examples - sunlight, office, lab, a dimly lit room.  This will determine the amount of background signal in the wavelength band you are attempting to measure and how much NIR light will be needed.
    2. What is the sensitivity of the camera system that images will be taken with.  This also is part of determining the level of NIR irradiance needed.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the fast answer! Because of final product price, the DLP4500NIR could not be possible, that's why I would have to evaluate the DLP2010NIR like the first option.

    - The enviroment would be definitely indoor.

    - The sensor has the next specification:

    Sensor type                         10-Bit format
    Pixel size                              2 μm x 2 μm
    Sensor Active Area              2688H x 1520V
    Responsitivity                      1.9 V/lux-sec
    SNR                                     38.3 dB
    Dynamic Range                   64.6 dB

    Does it help?

  • Is it what you need or perhaps the sensitivity in mV?
