Projector makes sound during pattern sequences

When playing a stored pattern sequence, the projector makes a high pitched whine. Is this normal? I assume it is the mirror movement (it changes depending on frame rate) but it is really, really, really obnoxious. Do all the projectors do this?

FTR, I am using the DLP Lightcrafter described here

  • Dear Adam,

All LightCrafters have some high-pitch noise. This is normal and expected and comes from ceramic capacitors and/or inductors at certain operational frequencies. It's quite noticeable when placing your ear very close to the LightCrafter board. It shouldn't be loud at > 1 foot distance.

The sound from the moving micro-mirrors is not perceptible even when placing your ear close to the DMD. Most probably someone would hear other noise before hearing the DMD noise.

The other LightCrafter electronics shouldn't be producing any loud noise either.

Is the noise from your LightCrafter considerably loud? Has it been present since the LightCrafter was turned on for the first time? Have you noticed any other issues since the noise has been detected?
