DLP Lightcrafter USB connectivity issue on Linux

Hi all,

I have problems in connecting my DLP Lightcrafter via USB to my PC on a Linux system. I'm able to power on and boot it and I see RGB Color ramp pattern on the screen, but then when I connect it to the PC, it does not connect neither if I use the GUI nor if I run the lcr_app from the command line.

I read that there were problems related to the compatibility with USB 2.0, but only Windows was mentioned.

Does the same problems exist also on Linux and, if so, should I update the firmware?

Thank you in advance,

Valentina

  • Hi Valentina,

Next week we will double check if there is USB Startup delay also in Linux.  Have you tried similar steps shown on section 2.2.4 of the LightCrafter User's Guide?

  • Hi Valentina,

We have not seen an issue with the USB Startup delay in Linux. We just tested using Oracle's VirtualBox (ver 4.3.26) and Ubuntu (14.04 LTS) emulator in a Windows-based laptop and we didn't see any USB connectivity issue. It's required that the USB driver is installed. Please confirm that it's installed and properly running.

If possible, check that the LightCrafter works in a Windows-based machine.

If for some reason, the USB connectivity issue on Linux persists, we recommend to follow similar steps shown on section 2.2.4 of the LightCrafter User's Guide and let us know.

  • Thank you for the reply.

The USB driver is already installed, I only enable USB networking.
Could it be a problem of missing root privileges when connecting the device to the laptop?

I will check if it works on Windows and let you know.

    Regards,

    Valentina

  • Hi Valentina,

I don't think it would be a problem of missing root privileges when connecting the device to the laptop. But it would be great if you could also check that RNDIS over USB is properly running in your Linux environment.

  • Hi,

on my laptop I have both Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Windows 7. I installed the GUI on Windows too and followed all the instructions, included the ones for the delay.

The local connection appears when I connect the lightcrafter to the laptop, but when I press CONNECT on the GUI, nothing happens and if I click on GET, it just says no connection, on both operating systems.

I also tried to connect the lightcrafter to another pc with Ubuntu system, but there's again the same problem.

I really do not understand which could be the problem.. any other suggestion?

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Valentina

  • Hi Valentina,

If the USB is tested and working properly, then It looks like you have isolated the problem and it's the LightCrafter. Please consider a replacement if it's still under warranty.

  • Hi,

I solved the problem.. there was a conflict of IP addresses and the pc was not able to connect to the lightcrafter.
    Now it's working.

    Thanks for your help,

    Valentina
