DMD POM border width

Hi,

Am I correct in thinking that the pond of mirror border width is always fixed and the same within a DMD device type? I have found a couple of DMD datasheets which say the width is a nominal 6 mirrors wide each side of the active area for one device and 14 each side for the other device.

What are the minimum and maximum widths encountered in DMDs? Is it possible to view the datasheets for Ti DMDs with regard to POM border width?

  • Dawin,

The structure and qualities of the border around the active array includes a band of partially functional mirrors called the “Pond Of Mirrors” (POM). These mirrors are structurally and/or electrically prevented from tilting toward the bright or “on” state but still require an electrical bias to tilt toward “off.” The size of this band is not the same for all DMD types. Please refer to the individual DMD device datasheet for the size of the band.

  • Is there a list of the active array border sizes for all the TI DMD's available? This would enable a common initialisation file for all our projectors. I don't think all the DMD datasheets are readily available without asking for each one individually.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dawin

  • Dawin,

The documentation for the DMD devices which are available can be found at http://ti.com/mems.

  • Dawin,

Adding on to Pascal. The 'Pond of Mirrors' not addressed by the controller chip. So from controller side you don't  need additional configuration information during the initialization.
