RE: Camera synchronization with Discovery 4100 Kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Dear Sir,

I am using the DLi Discovery 4100 Kit together with a xiQ camera by Ximea  including a CBL-MQSYNC-3M0

DLi also provided the document about synchronisation.

We are in need to synchronize the DMD with this specific camera recorder.

A structured pattern is projected from the DLP and we record it in the basic perspective to get 3D images.

Could you please indicate how may we proceed to synchronise both devices ?

Regards

  • Connect both using a cable with the right connectors.

  • Hi Remi,

I hope all is well. See information below:

As shown in file “ALP 4.1 HS External Connections & Interfaces” the trigger input and output signals are on connector J6.

When set to run in “slave” mode the DLP will display the next picture in the defined sequence each time an input trigger pulse is received.  The camera trigger and DLP trigger can be directly wired in parallel if the trigger signal is sourced by some third device.  In other cases either the camera or DLP is configured as the “master” device and it runs from an internal timing source, and then the other device is synchronized to the master.

If the trigger comes from a third device and some delays are needed between the DLP and the camera, the trigger signal can be applied to the DLP and then a trigger output from the DLP can be applied to the camera.  The trigger output has programmable delays via ALP API controls.

Note that the trigger signals on J6 are 2.5V logic level only. Do not use a simple series resistor for input trigger signals higher than 2.5V level.  Use a low-ohm resistor divider (about 1K) instead to prevent damage to the Discovery board.  If using trigger output from the DLP it will be 2.5V level and if the other device needs some higher voltage level then the required voltage translation must be done external to the DLP board.

    Good luck!
