DLP system architecture for supporting two features

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC200, DLPC350, DLPC300

Hello Team,

I have got a question from our customer about the entire DLP system or architecture including optical design. Would you please give any comments or advices to this question?

If the user wants to have two features in one product (one system), one for a normal projection and the other for the 3D scanning (3D Measurement). In this case, what kind of architecture can be considered?  Is it possible to share the DMD chipsets and Optical module block for both features? Or, should they prepare two sets of DMD chipsets and optics and separate it for each features?

We would like to know what portion can be shared and what function should be prepared for each features.

I am sorry for asking the abstract question. But it would be helpful if you have any comment to this question. If you have any example of two features on one system, it would be better.

Best Regards,

  • Hello Nobu Arai,

    Answer is partially YES .

The DLP MEMS controller parts listed in TI website such as DLPC200, DLPC300 DLPC350 etc.. have basic 'Video Sequence' that can produce a okay type video image while it has very good dedicated sequence for displaying structured light patterns for using in 3D Scanning.

    So,

basic video display  - okay type (note, TI we not provide any support in tuning the white point correction and modification according to illumination characteristics), you need to use whatever video sequence provided with standard offerring.

structured light pattern display - very good

The same optics can be used, in 3D scanning customer use variety algorithms for compensating optical distortions from the projector.

  • Sanjeev-san,

    Thank you for the answer.

I understand that the DLP Embedded products like DLPC200, DLPC300 and etc should have an ability of okay type video image and you can share the optics if good level structured light and okay level video image.

Do you mean that good level video image needs Front or Pico Products(Video/Data Display)? If the user needs good level for both video and structured light, should they prepare two sets of a DLP chipsets and optics separately?

Also, would you please tell us what is the difference between Embedded products and Video/Data Display products?

    Best Regards,
