Does DLP4710 EVM support 3D video display?

Is it possible to configure the DLP4710 EVM to display a side by side 3D video, and use the DLP-LINK glasses to watch the 3D video?

if yes, how to configure it?

Hello Jeffery,

The current firmware on the DLP Display LightCrafter 4710 EVM doesn't support the 3D feature. The chipset in general does support 3D.

A new firmware would be needed to support this feature.

Finally, I have chance to test the 3D image, I have upgraded the image which you have sent to me successfully, but it still works in 2D mode, how can I set the EVM into 3D mode? (I think the left video should be overlay with right video without DLP-LINK glasses).

You have to switch to look 3 in advanced mode of the GUI.

I followed your guide to set look 3 in advanced mode, and have tried 2 types of video format：

1. Blueray 3D DVD

the video is flicking with left and right video swapping.

2. 1080P side by side half 3D

I supposed the EVM should scale up the left side and right side then override those frames on the screen, but it does nothing, just display the half 3D video side by side.

do I need some special software to play the 3D video for EVM?

Hello Jeffery,

We have specific requirements for the input video format to be able to support 3D. A normal Blueray player doesn't work with our system.

Customer who would like to use 3D in our system have to do some frond-end processing to input the right format.

The requirements are explained in the DLPC3439 datasheet on page 29.

The DLPDLCR4710EVM front-end chip doesn't do the formatting for you.

Can you please let me know which DLP LightCrafter Display 4710 EVM you are using ? Are you using the Gen2 ?

Would you like to use 3D or are you only interested in the 120Hz frame rate.

Hi Nadine,
Yes we got Gen2 of this kits.
I need frame rate sync half rate of ITE6801_VSYNC_OUT (pin1 J48) on TRIG_OUT_B (pin5 J48) for example. So the 3D firmware will do that, isn't it?

Hello Frederic,

Can you provide us your email that was used to create your TI.com account? This will provide us the ability to get you the firmware.

A few notes about using this:

The GPIO 9 (TRIG_OUT_B) signal requires the 3DR input signal from your host to function properly. Also R772 must be placed in order to see this signal out on the J48 connector, or else you can use TP79. You will have to move to LOOK #3 (the one that supports 3D) on the firmware we will provide you.
