Splash screens update by GUI V5.0 software

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2

Dear All,

Thank you for your support.

Please let me ask you the current latest V5.0 GUI software.

I'm using former version LCRDisplay4710EVM(it is not G2).

1) I found the "Update Flash Image" menu in the V5.0 GUI software. But "Get started" button is not active(it is gray).  Can I use the "Update Flash Image" function for my EVM?

2) Also I found "Flash Image Update" menu  in advanced mode. Can I use this menu for my EVM flash image modification?

Thank you and best regards,

Rossinag

  • Hello Rossinag,

The updated flash image tool in the GUI requires a specific format of our firmware. Due to the change of the RLIM value in the new DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2 generation we only support the updated flash image tool in the GUI for G2.

The update flash image tool in the GUI is not supported for the first generation of the DLPDLCR4710EVM.

I can change the splash images for you if needed.

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • Hello Nadine,

    Thank you for your support.
I understand the flash image tool in the GUI cannot use for my DLPDLCR4710EVM.
I will try to use another "Update Splash Images Tool" for the splash screen change.

By the way, I would like to get a flash image all LEDs disabled initially(at power on) .
Is it possible to provide such the DLPDLCR4710EVM image file?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Rossinag
  • Hello Rossinag,

I can provide you with a image file which has all LEDs turned off after boot up. Please allow me a few days to get back to you.

You are using the first generation of the 4710EVM is that correct ? The firmware wouldn't work for the DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2 please keep that in mind.

    Best regards,

    Nadine
  • Hello Nadine,
Thank you very much for your help.
Yes,I am using the fist generation of the DLP4710EVM.
    Best regards,

  • Hello Rossinag,

Can you please provide an email address for me ? You can send it to me via a private message.

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Hellow Nadine,

I got a same problem. I am using DLP4710EVM (first generation) and tried to change the splash image, but failed.

So now I would like to disable LED when I powered on DLP4710EVM. Please email me the same firmware which you mention in previous posting.

    my email is sjhan1206@gmail.com

    Thanks you in advance.

  • Hello Nadine,

I got a same problem with DLP 4710EVM(first generation). Please email me the firmware which you mentioned before.

Because I can't update splash image, I would like to turn off LED at the boot of the DLP 4710EVM.

    Please use sjhan1206@gmail.com

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello Sangjo,

Thank you for your interest in our DLP Technology. Please let me know if I can assist you with updating the splash images.

Please allow me some time to get back to you with the customized firmware.

    Thanks,

    Nadine

  • Hello Sangjo,

I have send you a link to download the customized firmware for DLPDLCR4710EVM-G1.

Please note this firmware is not compatible with the DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2. The LEDs are turned off by default.

    Best regards,
    Nadine

Thank you for the firmware. It works great.

That sounds great! The firmware which I want is to show blank image(black splash image) when the DLP4710EVM-G1 turns on with LED enabled.

When you are done with the customize firmware, please let me know.

    Thank you

I am waiting for new DLP4710EVM- G2(not G1) for other project. I would like to communicate with DLP4710EVM-G1 and G2 from linux pc.
Last night I went through your other posting, but didn't succeed yet.

RIght now I am working with Cypass example code. If you have any example code for PC communication with DLP4710EVM, please let me know.

  • Hello Sangjo,

Do you want me to create another customized firmware for the black splash image ? In this case I would prefer to come up with a black test pattern. There is no need to load a black splash image. Please let me know.

The only available code we currently have is the sample code provided with the cypress chip. Please be aware of our handshaking-process between the cypress and the msp430.

The cypress is requesting the I2C bus with GPIO5. The MSP430 is responding by setting GPIO6 of the Cypress High. After that the cypress enables GPIO9 which gives him access to the I2C bus.

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • Nadine,

    Thank you for your help.

You are right. A black test pattern would be good choice instead of the black splash image. Please make another customized firmware with a black test pattern and minimum LED current for RGB when it powers on.

Right now I figured out how to set GPIO 5 high and wait for GPIO 6 high and then set GPIO 9 high. The LED of D_MSPACK is on/off/on, when I set GPIO5/GPIO9.

However, I have a hard time to set new I2C configuration with 0x1B address.

I got error - "CySetI2cConfig returned failure code".

    Thanks

    Sangjo

  • Hello Sangjo,

I will let you know when I have a new customized firmware available.

Regarding the cypress communication I would like to refer to following post. This post has the most important parts already in it.

  • Nadine,

When I checked the your old posting, I found "Have you also tried to reassign the com port?".

Do I need COM port to communicate with DLP4710EVM-G1?

I thought that VID 0x04B4, PID 0x000A are used to open the Cypress chip.

When I check the device manger in Window 7, I don't find any COM port for Cypress chip in port menu.

I found only USB-serial (DUal Channel) Vendor1, 2, MFG in serial bus controller menu.

    Let me know.

    Sangjo
  • Nadine,

Somehow I succeed to communicate with DLP4710EVM.

When the customized firmware is ready, please let me know.

    Thanks you for your help.

    Sangjo

  • Hello Sangjo,

I am glad it is working now.

You should be able to download the new firmware. The system will power up with a black TPG and 1A LED current.

    Best regards,

    Nadine
  • Hello Nadine,

im using the 4710EVM (not G2) and also failed to update the flash image.

What im trying to do is to set the white point by setting the duty cycles of RGB (no definite values) with the GUI V5.0.

Following error occurs: "Flash image update failed: unexpected Error. Contact TI Application Engineer".

    Best regards,

    Joey

  • Hello Joey,

Unfortunately we don't support the update flash image feature on the DLPDLCR4710EVM.

It is only supported for DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2.

    Best regards,

    Nadine

  • Hi nadine,

thanks for your fast answer. So there is no way of adjusting the duty cycles for the former EVM model?

    Regards,
    Joey
  • Hello Joey,

Unfortunately we don't provide this feature for the DLPDLCR4710EVM.

I can assist you if you know which specific LED duty cycle combo you need.

Please note that this support can only be provided in a limited amount.

    Best regards,

    Nadine
  • Thank you for your offer, Nadine.
I will come back to you when i have specific values.
finally, can you please tell me the operating frequency of the LEDs?

    Best regards,
    Joey
  • Hello Joey,

This is depending on the sequence we pick for the LEDs which is depended on the duty cycle for each LED and frame rate.

    Best regards,
    Nadine
