DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2: DLPDLCR 4710 EVM-G2 status : Contented , turned off and won't turn on by pressing switch

Part Number: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2

Hi there

I got DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2  board.

I connected power and USB cables and power on the board , LEDs light up and fan starts rotating , but after pressing ON/OFF switch(SW21)  it won't turn on the projector and board's status in  DLP LightCrafter Display is : " Contented , turned off "

Any clue where should I start diagnosing the problem?

Regards

Amir.

  • Hello Amir,

Thank you for your interest in DLP products and sorry to hear you've had issues.

Can you verify the LEDs that turn on when you first turn on SW28 and after when you turn on SW21 for the projetcor? It should follow the description mentioned in page 6 of the EVM guide.

    Thanks,

    Sepeedah

  • Dear Sepeedah

    Thanks for quick respond.

    LEDs status are as follow:

After  sliding PS_ON/OFF switch(SW28)to the ON position:

D75 : lights up and stays ON

+3.3V LED:  lights up and stays ON

    D66 , D67 : flash like 100msec

    After Pushing ON/OFF switch (SW21) :

D56  : Blinks ON and OFF and stays OFF

D57  : Blink OFF and ON and stays ON

    D33  :OFF(no change)

    D34  :OFF(no change)

    D36  :OFF(no change)

  • Amir,

On the first line D75, you are referring to D57, is that correct?

Can you please mention was this board working at some point and is not working now or is this the first time working with the board? If so, what were the changes or procedures?

Please make sure you are using the correct power supply as mentioned in the user's guide (19 V DC, 4.74 A).

    Thanks,

    Sepeedah

  • Sepeedah

    Yes D57 , my bad .

The board was handed to me just 3 days ago (labeled as "not functional") to diagnose the problem , but as far as I know , It was working fine like 3 hours in a row.

The power output supply is :19V DC 4.74A (by HP)

    Thanks

    Amir.

  • Thank you for the info Amir.

It's difficult to pinpoint the issue since there are multiple possibilities. Can you find out the process that lead to the failure?
Also please make sure the DMD flex cable has not been damaged.

    Thanks,
    Sepeedah
  • Dear Sepeedah

Well ,Yes it's complicated, that is exactly what I am doing, investigating the failure reason (misused by operator or board/electronics failure), in any way which you can help me to find out the reason, will be helpful.

Any chance to recovering the board ? like firmware update or anything?

What are the possibilities and any fix solutions?

DMD flex cable is intact as first day.

    Thanks
    Amir.
  • hi guys

i have the same problem whit DLPDLCR4710

firs i get this pluged in power and it was working properly but when i put it in my device i turned it on again , there  was the same problem that AMIR mentioned.

i read the manual and saw there is a situation NAMED : DMD PARK MODE.

i think it is the main problem, but i dont know how can fix it.

    can you help me??

  • Amir,

Has the board been disassembled and re-assembled again? There may be a power problem.

Please make sure you have a stable 1.1V and 1.8V rail on the board. Also it will be helpful to acquire scope shots of the PROJ_ON, Host_IRQ, INT_Z signals when turning the projector on to rule out some cases.

    Thanks,

    Sepeedah

  • Sepeedah

Let me make inquiry  about disassembly , and get back to you.

Could you show where are the test points for 1.1V and 1.8V and PROJ_ON, Host_IRQ, INT_Z signals for connecting them to the scope ?

Is there any schematic map I can use to find the test points?

This is a gif I made from powering ON the board and pressing SW21 after that.

I hope I cover all LEDs status

If is there any thing I can do to narrow done to problem cause , please let me know.

    Regards

    Amir.

  • Amir,

Please refer to the following reference design regarding the schematic for this design:

    Thanks,

    Sepeedah

  • Sepeedah

Thanks for Schematics link :) .

    The board hasn't been disassembled.

1.1V and 1.8V has no voltage when the board is powered ON , after pressing SW21 switch , their voltage goes to 1.1V and 1.8V for like 2 seconds and drop back to zero.

Same as PROJ_ON and INT_Z signals (pick in voltage signal happens after pressing SW21 :

    PROJ_ON:

    INT_Z:

And Host_IRQ didn't have any voltage at all.

    I hope these could help.

    Regards

    Amir.

  • Dear Sepeedah

Do you have any suggestion for solving this issue ?

    Regards
    Amir.
  • Hi there

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello Amir,

    Please excuse the late response.

    I have a few questions:

    1. It is important to understand when INTZ is getting low to understand the issue. You will need to probe INTZ, 3.3V , 1.8V , and 1.1V at the same time so we can get a better understanding of the timing for INTZ and when it gets low.  Please make sure you look at the 3.3V waveform as well the whole time. Also Host_IRQ should be at 3.3V and after auto-initialization should go low, therefore it's a question why you have no signal on Host_IRQ.

Please refer to the timing diagram in different modes, Figures 27 and 28 on the DLPC3439 datasheet and also Figures 27 and 28 in the DLPA3005 datasheet, for more info on the power up sequence.

    2. Has there been any modification to the MSP430 code?

    3. Has the Cypruss chip been reprogrammed?

    4. How long has it been since you purchased this EVM?

    Thanks,

    Sepeedah
