CCS/DLPC3438: The question about the working of DLPC3438

Part Number: DLPC3438

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello TI Expert,

I would like to ask a few questions about the test pattern generator of DLPC343x.

  1. Is the data that is configured by the test pattern generator transferred to the DMD as-is without any modification?

  1. This is the question about the GUI tool of DLPC3010 Lightcrafter display.

If we configure the test pattern with the Advanced tab of the GUI tool (Advanced -> Horizontal Ramp or Vertical Ramp of Test Pattern of GUI tooll9, we would like to know about the phenomenon.

If we set the same value to the resistor of Start Value and End value of Horizontal ramp or Vertical ramp, does this mean that the same pixel level of solid color is output? In other words, if we set 128 for start value and 128 for end value, does this mean that the level 128 of the image is output?

Is this understanding correct?

It seems our customer is seeing that some level of image is not same as the configured (expected ) value,. That is why we are asking  the question nadn if you have any advices, it would be helpful.

Thank you for the information.

  • Dear Arai-san,

The DLPC3438 controller and DLP Light Crafter Display 3010 EVM are designed for video display application. The input image/data goes through several image processing steps  to provide best visual experience.

The light out from the projection module may not have a linear and one-to-one mapping with respect to input image, because human eye response is not linear.

In GUI tool (Advanced -> Horizontal Ramp or Vertical Ramp of Test Pattern)  if you set  the start and end value to be same then it will display a constant gray value across image.

In case , your application is not about visual display and requires controls of individual  pixels then please consider DLP chipsets targeted for "Advanced Light Control" application.

    regards,

    Vivek

  • Vivek-san,

Thank you for the answer. I understood that some image processing steps can not be bypasssed inside of the DLPC3438.

I answered it to our cusomer and if I get any additional question, I will let you know.

    Best Regards,

    Nobu Arai
