Hi all,

The customer uses TMS320C5505 DSP on one of their boards. There is a shortcut between Vdd and Vss on the board.

When they unmounted the IC, they detected that there is a shortcut between the balls G7 (Vss) and F7 (DVDDIO).

By the way, it is written on sprs660f.pdf on table-2.21 that DVDEMIF signals can be connected to ground if EMIF isn't used on the design. They suspect if that can cause a problem. Because they connected DVDDEMIF signal to ground.

Could you please advise?

What started in Table2-21 is correct. The EMIF I/O power rail is seperated from other I/O power rails. DVDDIO is a seperate I/O rail for NON-EMIF and NON-RTC. They need to keep on checking.

If you are referring to a shortcircuit inside the device, then all peripherals other than EMIF and RTC are grounded and will not work. You can confirm by using the "swap" methd: replace this unit with a known good unit and place this questionable unit to a known good board. As such, you can also confirm if there is a shortcircuit on the board assumming the board design is correct and confirmed.
