TMS320C5505: Why TMS320C5505 eZdsp on-board xds100 emulator does not have CPLD chip?

Part Number: TMS320C5505

Hi,

I am trying to build my own board based on c5505 DSP. While examining the schematics for TMS320C5505 eZdsp, I realized that there is not a CPLD device  on the schematics. Does my finding is true? If so How does on-board XDS100 emulator opearte  without needing XC2C32A, can I do the same on my board ?

The schematic I checked can be downloaded from here: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/usbstk5505/revd/files/usbstk5505_Schematics_RevD.pdf

  • Hi,

I've checked the schematic and it seems that it works this way.
However, I've not seen such implementation as well. This is why I am looping the C55x designers to elaborate on this. Their feedback will be posted directly here.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Well, since only main diffrerence among those two is type of ftdi chip and gpio pins entering to them, my guess is EZDSP's on board emulator is not much capale as normal xds100 module. Perhaps I could progrramm via on board emulator but some advance capabilites (like debugging ?) might not be possible...
