ADS1298: A processor matching ADS1298

Part Number: ADS1298
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , TMS320C5515, TMS320C5505, OMAP-L138, AM1802, TMS320VC5507

I Want to use ADS1298 to implement an electrocardiograph. In order to reach the 32K sampling rate, I want to find a special processor to read ADS1298 data. Please recommend a processor with low power consumption, small package, and a sampling rate that can reach 32K.

  • Hi Fengmign,

Currently, our ADS1298ECGFE-PDK is based on the TMS320VC5509. I'm moving your post to the DSP forum to see if they have newer devices they would like to promote.

    Best Regards,

  • Thank you for your handling of this problem

  • Hi Fengmign,

According to what Ryan mentioned, I want to add some more details.

As you can find in this TI application report, you can choose TMS320C5515 as your digital signal processor. But this is not your only choice. Since 5515 and 5505 belong to the same DSP family, you are free to choose TMS320C5505 instead of TMS320C5515. For both of these DSPs TI provides evaluation board.

Another question you might have in your mind, is that, Is there any processor of other family proper for ECG project?

The answer is yes. You can each of these DSPs and MCUs:

OMAP-L138 from TI dual core DSP+Arm Processors.

AM1802 from TI Sitara™ ARM Microprccesors.

    BUT....

Be aware of some other issues that may play an important (but not key) role in your Start-to-End project time. For instance you can use each of C55x DSPs as your main processor. OK, that's good, but what about driving LCD. Although TMS320VC5507 would have an appropriate computational and processing performance, it has not any LCD bridge so you should solve this issue in other ways.Maybe you want to use DMA to run LCD or buy a LCD controller and connnect it to your DSP via McBSP (in SPI mode) or any other method you might use.

At the end, I'd recommend you to take a look at this reference guide related to ECG and EEG applications.

    Regards,

    Hossein
