Hi,

I'm using C5545Boosterpack for my application and I want to connect I2S output of the dsp to a slave bluetooth module (please see the link for the module), by making connections from boosterpack pin headers to the bluwtooth module i2s pins. So how can i establish this, please help me with the connections. I need to establish connection to successfully use the booster pack for my application implementation

Hi,

As far as I nuderstand you want to connect the C55 booster pack with this WT32i development kit, correct?
If so, then as I see from the silabs website:
www.silabs.com/.../wt32i-bluetooth-audio-development-kit
you should use the USB for this purpose.

To try and emulate i2s transaction you can use the pio interfaces (this will require programming of the WT32i device, I don't know its specifics) on the WT32i development kit expansion header. For I2S transaction you need:
- clock
- word clock
- data in
- data out
See Chapter Inter IC Sound (I2S) Bus in the device TRM.

1) I didn't understand you well, how you gonna use usb to establish this i2s transaction from c5545booster pack to the dkwt32i (wt32i dev. kit). can you please elaborate.?

2)dkwt32i has i2s header pins on the board, but you are saying to use pio, can you elaborate how i can do it

3) does c5545booster pck provide clock and word clock? i see only clock and fsync pins

4) which device trm are you refering to?

1). No you can't get i2s through usb, I wasn't clear here. The usb is for board-to-board communication not for i2s.

2). I just noticed the J12 on page 13 of wt32i dev board, is this a header on the board? If this is a header on the WT32I board, than you can use it directly, which means you are correct, NO need to use pio.

3)Connect
C5545 FS to Codec's word clock
C5545 Clock to Codec's BCLK

If not sure for anything, you can refer to: support.spectrumdigital.com/.../evm5515_Schematics.pdf ==> Page 19.

Hi yordon,,

1)as i mentioned in my previous reply, wt32i can't provide bclk as there is not master clk generator, it is slave. is there a way i could provide clock from c5545 dsp?

2)yes there are i2s header pins on dkwt32i, but the challenge is as explained in 1)

Hi,

Check Section 10.2.2 I2S Clock Generator. The C5545 i2s_sclk should be able to provide the bclk (master clock).

are you refering to TRM pdf you provided? bacause the schematic pdf you profided was for c5515 not c5545

okie, i just glimpsed through it, how would you set the sample rate register value and mode =1 for making the dsp i2s master? i don't see a register number or so... i'm pretty new to this dsp thing. so if you provide me instructions on how and where to change the registers to make it master and make it able to provide bclk to the wt32i module

The C5545 can only act as I2S slave. Master mode is not supported.
Please see Advisory 2.0.14 of www.ti.com/.../sprz383b.pdf. This is the errata for the C5517, but I think this applies to the C5545 as well.

Does the bluetooth device have to be slave?

But it can provide the bclk clock right. One of your experts mentioned that it is possible. Here is what your colleague said

Yes it can. I made an error when I saying that the C5545 Master isn't supported. The errata seems to only apply to the C5517.

-Okie, if so can you please provide the code to change the c5545 dsp i2s output to master in my c code? I’m using the demo loopback test code from TI. I appreciate if you can provide detailed code changes to make this happen as i have very little expertise in this dsp and ccs stuff.

-also wondering what happens to aic3206 providing the bclk to dsp if i change the dsp i2s to master? Will i still be able to hear the loopback audio on headphones jack?
