5505CEVM batteries power supply - how do we make it work?

We bought 3 5505CEVM boards - we understood from the documentation that it also runs on batteries, so far we failed to turn it on with batteries (two thin AAA bateries that fit the cradle in the bottom of the board) - but it doesn't work!! What do we need to do in order to operate it on batteries power supply?

I assume you have switched jumper J39 to select battery. I have to get 2 batteries to try out myself.

I have just tired a brand new C5515 EVM out of the box. I put in 2 AAA batteries, switched jumper 39 to BAT and turned on the EVM. The preloaded demo program runs correctly displaying on the LCD. The Sec count is incrementing. Please confirm.
