where to get Ramdisk filesystem source for ti K2HK

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 66AK2H14

Hi,

I am working on 66AK2H14 processor in our custom board..I am referring  the K2HK EVM kit purchased from ti for linux and filesystem booting.

With EVM kit, we have got only linux kernel and filesystem images.

I have downloaded Linux source from ti SDK. But could find any ram disk filesystem source.

Can you please tell me , where to download ram disk filesystem source and compilation procedure.

  • Moving to C6000 Multicore DSP forum.

  • You would find *.cpio.gz file and able to boot RAMDISK image.

  • Hi Vidya,
We would suggest you to download the latest Processor SDK Linux. Please find the download link below my signature. As Titus mentioned above you can find the pre-built filesystem in SDK installation directory and follow the yocto build procedure to built the custom filesystems in exploring wiki.

    Thank you.
  • Hi Raja,

    Thanks for you input,

I am already working with the sdk (k2hk-evm-sdk-src-02.00.01.07.tar.gz) which i downloaded along before from the below link,

This tar had following sources files ,

    boot-monitor-3.0+gitAUTOINC+035329caed,

    u-boot-2015.07+gitAUTOINC+5922e09363,

    uio-module-drv-2.0.0.0+gitAUTOINC+6a7eda36e3,

    hplib-mod-01.01.00.06+gitAUTOINC+1cbe6a4192,

    extra-drivers.

but it could not find any filesystem within it.

Does the link which you preferred has filesystem within it ??

    Please guide me,

  • You should download the bin tar file "k2hk-evm-linux-sdk-bin-02.00.xx.xx.tar.gz" to get the filesystem.
The latest Processor SDK : k2hk-evm-linux-sdk-bin-02.00.02.11.tar.gz
  • Hi Titus,

The SDK (k2hk-evm-linux-sdk-bin-02.00.02.11.tar.gz) which is latest is 2.0.2 and the one SDK which i am using is 2.0.1.

    Which is stable one ?

Where could i find complete source package like linux, filesystem ,boot monitor and u-boot.

The one l downloaded is k2hk-evm-sdk-src-02.00.01.07.tar.gz and this has linux kernel version 4.1.13. Is this stable one ?

Please let me know whether its safe to proceed with this kernel.

  • You can use any one of the processor SDK package and you would get the support, no doubt about it.
Always we recommend the customers to use the latest package for the new users.
If you already developed and working on it, you can stick into it and later migrate to our new package.
In new package we have some of bug fix and newer kernel version (4.1.18+ (2015 LTS)).
Older processor SDK ( 4.1.13+ (2015 LTS) ) not much changes though.

If you are about to start development then please install the latest processor SDK 2.0.2.

In the download link itself, if you see the description of every file, you can get the details.

k2hk-evm-linux-sdk-src-02.00.02.11.tar.gz --> K2H/K2K Linux SDK BSP Source Code
k2hk-evm-linux-sdk-bin-02.00.02.11.tar.gz --> K2H/K2K Linux SDK prebuilt BSP binaries and root filesystem

    Its used for yocto build:

    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Processor_SDK_Linux_Release_Notes

  • Hi ,

As you said i downloaded k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01.bin for root filesystem.

This filesystem gets booted up with the kernel linux-4.1.13+gitAUTOINC+8dc66170d9-g8dc6617, but it crashes in

    INIT: version 2.88 booting
Error opening /dev/fb0: No such file or directory
    Starting udev
    [   12.452745] udevd[1186]: starting version 182
[   12.723084] Alignment trap: not handling instruction e1902f9f at [<c04bd974>]

    Is the stable version ?

Why its crashing while mounting udev.

  • Which boot method are you doing ?
NFS or UBIFS(NAND) or RAMFS ?
    Yes, its stable release only.
Are you using all the pre-built images (u-boot, kernel and fs)?
Can you please attach the complete boot log ?
  • Hi,

I am using UBIFS nand filesystem.

I cannot use the prebuilt images because our is customized board. Clock will vary . so i have changed the clocks in device tree.

  • One more thing in filesystem arago-base-tisdk-image-k2hk-evm.tar.gz which is downloaded from k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01 has dev/ directory as empty.

Why this dev is empty ??

  • Yes I too didn't get any device files in that dev directory.
Its just minimal filesystem which is used to boot in RAMFS.
So, I think, its not necessary and init file will be taken from /sbin/init for successful boot.

I have also tried to boot that filesystem (arago-base-tisdk-image-k2hk-evm.tar.gz) and got succeed.
  • I am able to boot the processor SDK 02.00.01 based UBIFS image on NAND flash and didn't see any issues.

Here the steps that I followed.

    u-boot# env default -a

    u-boot# setenv ipaddr 10.100.1.10

    u-boot# setenv serverip 10.100.1.40

    u-boot# setenv name_ubi tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.ubi

    u-boot# setenv tftp_root processor_sdk_02_00_01_07

    u-boot# run get_ubi_net

    u-boot# run burn_ubi

    u-boot# setenv boot ubi

    u-boot# saveenv

    u-boot# reset

  • HI TItus,

In my log in previous log ,you could notice error "Error opening /dev/fb0: No such file or directory"  . But in your log, i could see any such.

    1) Can  you tell me how you are compiling the filesystem,I am using the following commands to build the filesystem ,

    mkfs.ubifs -r boot/ -F -o ubi.img -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 993 --> to build the boot partition

    mkfs.ubifs -r arago-base-tisdk/ -F -o newrootfs.ubifs -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 993
    ubinize -o ubifs.ubi -m 2048 -p 128KiB -s 2048 -O 2048 ubinize.cfg

    2) I am also working in kernel -3.10.61 which is booting properly but hanging in filesystem.

Is there any kernel dependency included in filesystem. i.e.,k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01 supports only linux-4.1.13.

If so, how can i change the filesystem to be generic such that it boots up with any kernel image.

    3) In your mail, you said its minimal filesystem. where could i get full filesystem and customize .?

    Please guide ,

  • I've used the following pre-built UBI filesystem.
    board-support-bin/filesystem/tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.ubi
  • HI,

Can you please tell whether the procedure for compiling the filesystem is correct,

    mkfs.ubifs -r boot/ -F -o ubi.img -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 993 --> to build the boot partition

    mkfs.ubifs -r arago-base-tisdk/ -F -o newrootfs.ubifs -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 993
    ubinize -o ubifs.ubi -m 2048 -p 128KiB -s 2048 -O 2048 ubinize.cfg

Also please let us know , Is there any kernel dependency included in filesystem. i.e.,k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01 supports only linux-4.1.13.

If so, how can i change the filesystem to be generic such that it boots up with any kernel image.

    Please suggest,

  • Are you using the proper filesystem ?
You should not get "/dev/fb0" opening as K2H board doesn't support video stuff.
Which filesystem & version are you using ?
From MCSDK or Processor SDK ?
  • I am using the filesystem which i get from extracting the tar.( k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01.07.tar.gz)

I dint do any changes in filesystem. Just compiled using ubifs command and ported.

  • I hope, the newer kernel does support the remoteproc as inbuilt driver but module driver so that's why you are seeing a hang when you use the older kernel with newer filesystem.
And the remoteproc driver would get loaded while using the IPC examples like image processing and IPC demo via MatrixGUI.
To fix this problem, you can remove the IPC related scripts in filesystem to do smooth mounting.
  • Hi Titus,

I once again recompiled and ported kernel compiled with default def config and remote proc enabled.

I could get the prompt .
Our main requirement is to load files in dsp and execute it through mpmcl.

    I gone through the link

    and followed same procedure.

The newer filesystem doesnt have mpmcl package.

Where can i download the package and use mpmcl ?

U said, we can remover scripts in filesystem and do simple mount .

Please guide us how to remove the unwanted script initializing in boot up like thermal zone.

  • It seems you are using very minimal filesystem, try to use the complete TI SDK rootfs to get the mpmcl utility.
    ROOTFS:
    tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.tar.gz

We have ready made UBI image too so you don't want to do any command to convert to UBI.
    tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.ubi
  • I cannot port the ready made filesystem image( tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.ubi) because of clocking issues in our board. Currently arm processor is acting at 600MHz . So dtb is also modified.

The filesystem which i am using is arago-base-tisdk. And i think this is minimal filesystem.

I tried compiling your tisdk image using ubifs command but got following error,

Error: max_leb_cnt too low (4082 needed)
ubinize: volume size was not specified in section "rootfs", assume minimum to fit image "rootfs.ubifs"518316032 bytes (494.3 MiB)

Can you send your command sets to compile this filesystem.

  • Using this wiki, you can also delete the "boot" partition in UBI image and update your dtb & kernel image in u-boot.
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../MCSDK_UG_Chapter_Exploring

  • Followed up the same procedure, but got error while mounting boot

    Got this error,

  • I'm able to create a fresh boot and rootfs partition and able to mount the .ubi file.

  • Hi Titus,

Are you able to mount the same filesystem through NFS ?

  • Yep!
I have used the "tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.tar.gz" for NFS and UBIFS.

    tar -zxvf tisdk-server-rootfs-image-k2hk-evm.tar.gz -C fs_tisdk_server/

    mkfs.ubifs -r fs_tisdk_server/ -o ubifs-rootfs.img -F -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 3520
  • Titus,

    Is it need to do this "mkfs.ubifs -r fs_tisdk_server/ -o ubifs-rootfs.img -F -m 2048 -e 126976 -c 3520" for NFS.

I just edit the path in /etc/exports and set nfs_root to the filesystem

    But gets crashed.

    Attached log,

  • Have you exported the following path in your PC (NFS server) ?

    /home/armdsp/k2hk-ti/board-support/k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01/board-support-bin/filesystem/tisdk

    Ex:
    /home/armdsp/k2hk-ti/board-support/k2hk-evm-sdk-bin-02.00.01/board-support-bin/filesystem/tisdk *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

    After that, re-export the path.

    sudo exportfs -rav
    sudo exportfs

    After udev it hangs.

This is same if i boot the filesystem as UBIFS ,Ramdisk or NFS.

I guess it is trying to load module and failing so it hangs,

As i asked earlier, is there any kernel modules and dependency included in filesystem to do auto load.

If so how can i remove that .

Please let me know which script i need to be edited to stop auto load.

  • Try to do the following commands and now boot via NFS.

    sudo su
    cd /etc/rc5.d
    mv S10run_srss_tc.sh K10run_srss_tc.sh
    mv S10mpmsrv-daemon.sh K10mpmsrv-daemon.sh
    mv S10tiipclad-daemon.sh K10tiipclad-daemon.sh
  • Titus,

Even after doing the changes, its same. Get hang after statement 'starting udev'

We need only srio, ethernet, mpmsrv support in filesystem .

Except this we can remove other things which is not necessary for our hardware like thermal zone,LCD.Then it would be easy debug.

Can you help us on this,

  • Hi,

I have attached the filesystem source.

Can you please port it at your end and check.

  • I'm not able to download your attachment.
  • Hi Titus,

I am not able to attach the filesystem source.

I will try to attach as soon as possible.

Can you send me the filesystem source with srio ,Ethernet, mpmsrv support .

U can remove other things like like thermal zone,LCD.

It will be easy to debug.

  • I think, we can't upload that much huge file in e2e.
Will try to attach the "/etc" alone which had booting configurations.

Also you can remove the udev support and see able to boot without any hang.
  • Also you can remove the udev support and see able to boot without any hang.

Are you are asking to remove udev folder and boot.

  • Nope, I meant that not to run the "udev" script while booting.
Do the following command in NFS filesystem.
    mv k2hk_fs/etc/init.d/udev k2hk_fs/etc/init.d/udev_bkp
  • Hi,

I renamed the udev as you said.

Through NFS booting i am able to boot. But cant login.

I gave root as login but it is again asking for Login

    Attached the log

  • Hi Titus,

Why root login is not working in NFS.

    Am i missing any scripts
  • Hi Vidya,
I've also faced the same problem with default filesystem on K2H.
Let me try one more and confirm.
  • Are you facing login issue ???
  • Yes, I remember that I had similar login issue with PSDK NFS, but one of our team member was able to mount FS via NFS mode.
So, let me try and update you.
  • Can you tell which script i need to modify to remove thermal, lcd and modules loading.
  • Just rename (backup) the following scripts in "/etc/init.d" like udev
    /etc/init.d/thermal-zone-init
    /etc/init.d/parse-ip
    /etc/init.d/modutils.sh
  • I removed below scripts in /etc/ini.d folder to minimize the filesystem,

    /etc/init.d/thermal-zone-init
    /etc/init.d/parse-ip
    /etc/init.d/modutils.sh
    etc/init.d/rng-tool
    etc/init.d/lighttpd

After removing this if i boot, i get some msg "disagrees about version of symbol module_layout"

    What it means ?

Is the modules are not compatible to 4.1.13 kernel ?

    Attached log,

    fslog2.txt
