EVMK2G: ESD question

Part Number: EVMK2G

Hi Team,

I have a customer using the K2G02 in their system and they have a question about ESD:

Sheet 18 of EVMK2G schematic shows two ESD devices, TPD6E001RSE(6 channels) and TPD2E001DRLR(single channel) for micro SD card. Can we just use one single TPD8E003(8 channels)? It seems to make more sense to us just to use one device so we thought this may have been done for a reason. Just checking to see if you guys have any comments

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

As I said in your previous post the EVMK2G schematic is not available on the product folder, so I cannot see where (on which interface) those ESD devices are placed. I've notified the design team to confirm.

In general this should be possible. However take into account the input capacitance the description of teh TPDxE001 devices:

"This device has a 1.5-pF IO capacitance per channel, making it ideal for use in high-speed data IO interfaces. "

While in the TPD8E003 device there is the following description:

"This device provides 8 channels of ESD protection in a space-saving WSON package. Typical applications for the

TPD8E003 include Keypad, GPIO, resistive touchscreen, and low-speed memory interfaces."

So if the esd devices TPD6E001RSE & TPD2E001DRLR are placed on a high speed interface, I'd suggest to follow the EVMK2G reference design and NOT replace these with a single TPD8E003.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan

  • Brian,

Yes, you can use 8 channel ESD device for the micro SD interface.

  • No need to beware the added capacitance?

    Thanks,
