66AK2G02: Connection of balls Y21 and W21 (VPP and VPP2)

Part Number: 66AK2G02

The datasheet SPRS932D says that balls Y21 and W21 are reserved and are to be left unconnected.  However the K2GEVM shows them connected to a TPS22907YZTR switch.  I would prefer to save the cost of the extra parts on the board if they are not needed.  Can you confirm that Y21 and W21 are to be left unconnected?

  • Hi Debora,

I've forwarded this to the design experts. Their feedback should be posted here.

  • Hi Debora,

If you have a look at K2G Industrial EVM, you'll see that these balls can be left unconnected:

So my advice is to follow the Data Manual on this one and leave Y21 & W21 unconnected.  I am also looping the factory team to confirm.

    Yordan

  • Hi Debora,
The voltages for VPP and VPP2 are only needed for secure devices. The K2G GP EVM was designed to support both secure and standard devices. If you are not using secure devices, Y21 and W21 can be left unconnected.

  • Hi Bill,

Thank you very much for that information.

Since I think I want to use a secure device (not sure I understand the security requirements yet), can you tell me more about the control, timing, and sequencing requirements for enabling VPP and VPP2? I see that there is a switch U123 and a level translator U122 on the K2G GP EVM. Ultimately the enable pin for the switch is controlled by a signal VPP_EN from the BMC: when is VPP_EN asserted and deasserted? Why is level translator/bus switch U122 required, considering that U123's ON pin can take 3.3V? Does it have something to do with supply sequencing?

    Regards,
    Debora

  • Hi Debora,
Generally we don't provide information about the secure parts on the forums. Please contact your TI FAE to get the data manual for the secure part. That information should be found in that document.
