EVMK2H: ECMK2H SOC Power failure

Part Number: EVMK2H

Hi

After following the getting started guide, the module reports a SoC Power failure. The BMC version is 1.0.2.6.  Can someone assist me in getting this resolved.

Larry

  • Larry,

you are running into a known issue that is reported by the EVM manufacturer. this requires user to perform power management firmware update based on firmware binaries shared by the board manufacturer.

    EVM known issues:
    wfcache.advantech.com/.../EVMK2HX_Rev4_0_Known_Issues.pdf (Refer section 8.2)

Updated power management binaries are found here:
    wfcache.advantech.com/.../UCD_Configuration_Standard_Release.zip

    Power management Update tool:
    www2.advantech.com/.../EVMK2HX_sd.aspx

    Hope this helps

  • Hello Rahul,

The first link to the known issues for a 4.0 rev of the EVM the Adavntech states the following:

A revised UCD configuration has been created to eliminate this VDD33 supply
instability. The digital control loop compensation was changed to put Fz1 at half of
the double pole frequency and Fz2 at the double pole frequency. Then the gain was
reduced to limit the bandwidth to 5% of the switching frequency. This new UCD9244
XML File configuration is named UCD9244_52_A05.XML. It can be loaded directly in
to the UCD9244 controller using the TI tool Fusion Digital Power Designer. A script is
also available to perform a field update through the serial port using the BMC. This
script file is named UCD9244_52_A05.txt. These files are available on this website.
    Please follow the instructions at
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../EVMK2H_Hardware_Setup
anagement_Field_Update) to perform this field update.

Following thread there is no discussion on the Rev 4 version of this board.

It appears that I'm being asked to fix a problem that should not see. Can I get an RMA and shipping account information to return this board? I would like to exchange this for a known working board.

  • Larry,

We understand that this is causing difficulty for you.  Unfortunately, RMA replacement for this issue is not the solution.  It will cause much more trouble and delay that simply loading the new configuration files.  Be sure that you use both the latest configuration files and the updated bmc_tool.py tool.  The E2E link below is an example of a user that was able to get their platform working as intended.

  • Tom,

I tried it your way and the python script failed. The BMC version is current and I followed the TI instruction to get the BMC tool to update the UDC. Attached is the failure.

Let me explain my role. I'm a senior product manger at ASSET InterTech and I report directly to the CEO. My job is to identify ARM based hardware that we can support and blog about the experience with our customers and anyone else that cares to listen.

We purchased a Keystone II back in 2013 and could never get it to work correctly. I decided we would give it another shot and purchase this one. Only to run into the fact the products you ship doesn't work and you expect your customers to fix your problem.

If there is a VERY simple answer for the python script failing, I'll try one more time. If not, then your options are RMA or refund. I have 5 other targets on my desk that are needing attention and this is taking too long to resolve.

  • Larry,

We have updated the instructions and made sure that they point to the correct versions of the files on the EVM manufacturer's web page.  (The EVM manufacturer's web page has tabs for older versions of the EVM and these other tabs contain out-of-date files.)  This information is all linked from:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EVMK2H_Hardware_Setup#UCD_Power_Management_Modules_In-Field_Update

Use of the proper version of the bmc_tool.py script with the latest versions of the UCD configuration files will result in a functional K2H EVM.
