66AK2H14: Enabling single hyperlink and 10GbE in power model

Part Number: 66AK2H14

HI,

In power consumption model of 66AK2H14, it is not possible to select only one channel of hyperlink & 10GbE ( please refer below image).

May I know what is the reason?

Out of two hyperlink channels ( HYPERLINK 0 and HYPERLINK 1) , I am planning to use only one.

Thanks & Regards,

Madhu

  • Hi,

I've notified the factory team. Feedback will be posted here.

  • Hi,

From SW perspective, the two Hyperlink ports are seperate, there is no issue to only enable one port and disable the other. Looks this is an power estimation sheet. Where did you get this? Is an E2E forum?

    Regards, Eric
  • HI Eric,

I downloaded the sheet from 66AK2H14 Power Consumption Model link provided on page 53 of 66AK2H14 device datasheet ( SPRS866F).

  • Hi Madhu
The original owner of this power model is no longer with TI. My recollection is that overall power will not change much between 1 vs 2 lane - certainly on core power this is dominated by device leakage and core/DDR activity and on IO there maybe some differences but not enough to warrant a different IO power supply sizing.
So the power model owner chose to document the worst case. You can try to play with the % utilization values to see the potential variation (assuming same data rate etc).
I would recommend sticking with the power model worst case or if it is really impacting your power design, and you want to have additional granularity/understanding you can potentially measure the impact of power between 1 vs 2 lane on the IO rails taking some bench measurements - these will not change much over process so you can use this.

My recommendation still would be to stick with the power assessment provided by the model assuming 2 lanes.
