TI is hosting an introductory course at ARM TechCon to discuss the new, free C6EZRun and C6EZAccel tools, which developers quickly and simply leverage the digital signal processor (DSP) from within their ARM® applications and code. The C6EZRun is an open source development tool that makes it easy to build and run custom code on the DSP. C6EZAccel provides ARM code access to optimized DSP libraries through simple application programming interfaces (APIs). Daniel Allred, DSP software architecture engineer, will show you how to leverage these new tools to partition application C code between the ARM and DSP in your system-on-chip (SOC) and utilize the power of the DSP’s real-time signal processing capabilities to complement the ARM’s general purpose processing.

DSP architectures are optimized for real-time signal processing and provide a significant performance improvement over ARM cores with NEON acceleration for such applications. These performance improvements can be up to 10 times for certain use cases.  In recent years, TI has helped create and promote low-cost, community-driven development platforms to showcase the power of TI’s heterogeneous (C6000 DSP + ARM) SoCs, including the newly announced high-performance C6A816x Integra™ DSP + ARM processors.
