DM368 ipnc-rdkv5 Saldre performance is not up to the mark

Hi,

I enabled the saldre, but when I compare the video after enabling the saldre and video prior to enabling saldre I found these.

1. Overall brightness in the video has improved.

2.FOV reduced

3.Frame rate reduced.

These are the only changes I could observe, but as per the feature there should be definite improvement in the wide dynamic range but the I was not seeing any.

I tried using different mode and levels but not able to see any notable changes. Please  help Me in this issue.

  • Hi,

    Which platform are you running the SALDRE on?

    There are some fine tuning capabilities explained in the UG.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    I am using DM368 platform, with TI's Algorithms.

    This I found in the user guide (5344.DM365_SALDRE_UserGuide_v1.3)
    For TI-2A, in case bright regions become saturated after SALDRE is applied, lower the image
    pipe gain by changing in
    av_capture\framework\alg\src\alg_aewb.c
    the aeDynamicParams.ipipeGainRange[i].max value to some value lower than 4092

    I was not able to find aeDynamicParams.ipipeGainRange[i].max in av_capture\framework\alg\src\alg_aewb.c

    but the value aeDynamicParams.ipipeGainRange[i].max is changed to 1024 from av_capture/framework/alg/src/aewb_ti/imgs_AR0330_3.1MP/TI_aewb_config.c

    but still the performance is not better.
    I am using ipnc_rdk_dm36x_5.1_dm368 source code.
  • Hi,

    Can you please share some images before and after enabling SALDRE( preferably of a high contrast scene). This might help us to figure out whether the SALDRE is working or not.

  • Hi,
    Please find the images in before and after enabling the SALDRE, from this link

  • Hi,

    There is an option in web gui to select different modes and strength for SALDRE. Especially, try the "Local" contrast enhancment mode. With "High" Strength settings, there is a visible difference in output.

    Also, you can try to modify the below parameters to maually tune the module :
    Int16 GBEStrength /*global brightness strength, can be 64, 128, 256 */
    Int16 GCEStrength /*global contrast strength, can be 64, 128, 256 */
    Int16 LBEStrength /*local brightness strength, can be 4096, 6144, 8192 */
    Int16 LCEStrength /*local contrast strength, should be set to 4096 */

    Regards,
    Shwetha
  • Hi,
    I tried as you suggested I gave the options as..

    GBEStrength= 64; GCEStrength= 256;
        LBEStrength= 4096; LCEStrength= 4096;And got the result like this

    After disabling this is the result

    This after changing the parameters to

         GBEStrength= 64; GCEStrength= 256;
        LBEStrength= 8192; LCEStrength= 4096;

    The result is this

    So I am not able to find any notable difference here.

  • Hi,

    Sorry for the late reply!.

    GLBCE can't recover pixels which are already saturated from sensor. From the image you have shared the region in window are already saturated. Can you please try with different AE metering modes ? Also make sure  AE target is not too high.
