Linux/TMS320DM368: Download link for IPNC RDK 5.2.0 for DM365/368

Part Number: TMS320DM368
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM388, DM385

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

Please provide a download link for the recent GA release of IPNC RDK 5.2.0.

The Wiki page at processors.wiki.ti.com/.../IPNC_RDK_DM36x mentions an installation file named "IPNC-RDK-CSK-5.2.0-Linux-x86-64-Install.bin", but we are unable to find a link to this file.

We need this release for evaluation of portability of a custom board based on DM368 SoC.

Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,
Mark Haemmerling

  • Hi,

It is provided under NDA. Please contact local TI FAE.
  • Hi,

Can you check if you can access the following link. Looks like you need not contact FAE. You need to log in and accept the agreement to download : software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
  • Hi,

I am sorry. Ignore the above link. Though it is from DM36x page, it goes to DM38x IPNC package. It is different compared to DM36x IPNC package. There is some issue with the link. I will raise this issue and come back soon.

  • Hi Mark,

IPNC RDK 5.2.0. is not yet released in the above link. You can contact FAE for IPNC RDK 5.1.0. Which DM36x Hardware Board are you taking as reference ?
  • Hi Dwarakesh,

As our main concern is porting a customer board's system to a 4.x Linux kernel-based RDK, we need the latest IPNC RDK 5.2.0. We already have access to Appro's FTP site, so we can obtain versions up to 5.1.0 (Linux 2.6.37).

Currently the customer's board still uses Linux 2.6.18 which means that we are unable to (cross-)build many applications within a modern Buildroot toolchain (GCC 6.x) against musl, because the 2.6.18 headers are too old and cause type conflicts when building applications that use kernel headers, such as busybox.

Porting and using a 2.6.37-based RDK (e.g. 5.1.0) might be an option, but according to the musl 1.0.0 documentation, musl requires at least Linux 2.6.39 for proper operation. So I guess we might be out of luck with this relatively old kernel 2.6.37, too.

The customer really wants an kernel close to mainline (LTS release such as 4.4 will be fine). So we believe the IPNC RDK 5.2.0 would help us a lot.

When do you expect IPNC RDK 5.2.0 to be released?

Regarding the reference board: For testing a self-built kernel we would first use the DM36x EVM (with DM368 onboard), then test on DM368IPNC_MT5, then customer hardware.

    Best regards,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark,

I will get back on the date of release of DM36x IPNC 5.2 package. But would like to give heads up that IPNC package 5.2 is tested only on the CSK hardware. It is not tested in DM36x EVM or DM36x IPNC hardware.
  • Hi Mark,

IPNC RDK 5.2 is ready, but getting delayed due to WiFi driver porting. If you don't specifically need WiFi, you can contact TI FAE and request and get the package. May be TI would provide.
  • So is it ready now ?

  • Looks like it is not ready yet.
  • Is there an update on the download link for IPNC RDK 5.2.0 for DM365/368 or the release date ?

We ordered the DM388 and DM8127 versions and downloaded the software but we also like to have the DM369 version to help us with our established DM368/DM369 products

Are any of the manuals and design files for the DM369 CSK other than the user guide available anywhere ?

It's strange that the DM369 CSK appeared and disappeared so quickly. Or was it never officially released ?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

There is no official update about the release of ipnc 5.2.0.

For more information please contact your TI Local FAE.

  • Any update for the 5.2 release for the 36X? We have requested for FAEs and have received no response. We have heard that this chip set is going to Legacy status soon, which the delay to the ipnc release seems to indicate as well.

Please advise whether or not TI recommends the 36X for new designs.

    Thanks,
    Gabe
  • Hi Gabe,

There is no plan to release IPNC RDK 5.2 for DM36x.

All development on DM36x is to be done using IPNC RDK 5.1/ DVSDK.

There is no discussion to phase out DM36x as of now.

Please quote the source of the news if you have got this information through an official post/site/forum.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Akshat,

Thanks for your response. This somewhat contradicts a post in this thread from Dwarakesh dated May 21, pasted below:

"IPNC RDK 5.2 is ready, but getting delayed due to WiFi driver porting. If you don't specifically need WiFi, you can contact TI FAE and request and get the package. May be TI would provide."

Based off of this quote, we have two questions:

    1. Would TI provide the 5.2 version that they have, even if not finished? We wouldn't expect any TI support since it was never officially released, but it would at least give us more confidence in using the DM369 for this design.

    2. Do you know roughly how much effort it would take to port the RDK 5.2 to the DM369? Are we talking weeks, months?

At this point, we are basing our design decision to use the DM369 on the availability of RDK 5.2 for the part, or the ability to create it ourselves. This is because we also have a DM385 processor in the design which is already running on IPNC RDK 5.2, and we need to keep the two processors running the same RDK version. We are at a very critical point in our design, so this decision must be made ASAP.

Can you please answer my two questions above quickly, as we are struggling to make this decision at a critical point in the design stage.

    Thanks,
    Gabe
  • Hi Gabe,

TI has no plans currently to release IPNC RDK 5.2. There is no way to get IPNC RDK 5.2 version at this point (with/without support).
The effort to port RDK 5.2 is definitely in months, if done independently.

RDK to be used for DM38x is IPNC RDK 3.9 and not 5.2.

    Best Regards,
    Akshat
  • Just a quick note that we are in the same position as Gabe and are also looking for the DM369 version of the RDK. We did purchase the DM388 and DM8127 CSK but have designs based on the DM368 that we would like to update to DM369 with a common platform. So if TI is looking for feedback from customers, please count our vote in favor of DM369 RDK. It does not need to support DM365 or DM368 or even Wifi if that's an issue. And we're also looking to purchase the DM369 board that seems to have been available for the CSK for just a short time and apparently disapeared

  • Hi Gabe and tek4,

Can you share your contact info on my email ID (akshat.a@pathpartnertech.com) to discuss the DM36x RDK options offline?

    Best Regards,
