MIPI CSI support on DM37x

Hi, Tsvetolin,

Below is commnet from someone in Texas. What do you think of it? I'm very supprised to hear that content in TRM is not tested and guarenteed. Do you any real-example that CSI was used?

CSI is on the chip (which is why it is still in the TRM) but is not part of the data sheet which mean it is not tested and guarenteed.  Other variants of OMAP3 do have the CSI interface such as the 3630.

Where can I find the Android or linux driver for DM3730 CSI?

Hi Hongtao,

The isp.c file implements the CSI driver for DM3730 because the camera ISP implements three receivers which are named CSI2A, CSI1/CCP2B, and CSI2C.

Depending on the Kernel version the isp.c file could found in various path for example:

Kernel v2.6.37 the path is ../kernel/drivers/media/video/isp/isp.c

Kernel v3.4.54 the path is ../linux-3.4.54/drivers/media/video/omap3isp/isp.c

Hi Tsvetolin Shulev,

I can find implementation only for CSI2A receiver but not for CSI2C receiver. When we tried modifying it, it's not working. Are there any patches available for ISP to enable CSI2C receiver. We can connect only to CSI2C receiver on our platform.

I want to connect a MIPI CSI-2 camera with 2 data lanes to the Camera ISP. According to Table 1-3 in the TRM, CSI2 is not supported but as confirmed by this post, that table is erroneous. In chapter 6 of the TRM there is a detailed description on how to connect a MIPI CSI-2 / 2 data lanes

One camera module provider now told me that there are differences between PoP and non-Pop (CUS) packages - on the CUS package is only MIPI CSI-2 with 1 data lane supported. Can someone confirm this?

Yes, statement related to package is right. On CUS package, you will have MIPI CSI-2C with 1 data lane supported.

Ok I see that GPIO112 to GPIO115 are NA on the CUS package.

But according to table 6-3 on page 1083 of the TRM, it should be possible to use cam_d0/d1 and cam_d6...d9 to use a 2-lane signal (Scheme 5). Is this not proven to work?

There needs correction in your understanding. Assuming scheme 5, If CAM_D0,CAM_D1 are to be used, then CSI2_DX0, CSI2_DY0, CSI2_DX1 and CSI2_DY1 are their pairs and no other options. Why because is these are connected to CSI2A receiver. It is not possible to connect data lane to CSI2A and clock lane to CSI2C.

For the same scheme 5, it is possible to use CSI2C receiver with single data lane configuration through CAM_D6:CAM_D9.
