D8148: SGX530 Display

Hello Ti experts,

I understood that OpenMax uses VPSS co-processor for display purposes.

How does display works for GPU ? Does it also use VPSS co-proc ? I didn't find anything relevant about this.

Thank you very much

Dylan

    Correct.

Regarding SGX350 you could find information in the dm8148's TRM under chapter SGX530 Graphics Subsystem

  • Margarita,

Thank you for your reply. I have already ckecked on the davinci 8148 TRM but I didn't find anything answering my question.

For example, for GPU-compositing, how can the composition module display a video  (what HW is it using )?

    Thank you

  • I am quoting Badri from another post (http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716/t/333135.aspx) which answer this question :

Regarding VFDC , SGX doesn't have capability to directly display anything. Generally fbdev drivers are used for displaying SGX composited output on display.

FBDEV drivers in turn use the HDVPSS graphics pipeline to display the buffer.

So you don't need VFDC component but you do require fbdev which is present by default.

    Thank you
