AR0331 - HDR state causes much motion. Any ideas for fixing?

Hello,

I received help from OnSemi, but I was still wondering if anyone has experienced these same artifacts.

This is a continuation of this link:

Using IPNC_RDK_v3.8.0 on DM8127 with AR0331 sensor.

We are getting nice pictures with nice color. We chose HDR mode in order to see maximum areas, even though some are saturated and some are dark.

The kickback is that the HDR mode produces "false motion" - by combining 2 frames...and the 16-bit data is truncated, leaving very "blotchy" pictures.

I'd appreciate if anyone can help on this issue.

If I understand correctly, the issue is only with HDR mode. Is this correct?

Yes, basically we want to harness the HDR capabilities of the AR0331.
I have the DevWare and OnSemi/Aptina development board - but also there I see much motion.
Does HDR work only without motion - but with motion, it doesn't capture correctly?
I certainly hope not.

with dual frame HDR, which is what AR0331 does, you will get motion artifacts.

I also used sensors like A3372E3, which has a checkerboard WDR mode. but it has its own problem: image looks blurry, lack of fine details. I feel AR0331 gives better image.

But there's definitely something wrong with your IPIPE register settings, the color doesn't look right.

That's basically the conclusion I've reached, also.

HDR and motion with a rolling shutter just don't work well together.

The AR0331 sensor gives great color and detail (after I tweaked some of the settings)...
