TMS320DM8147: Feasibility of changing DDR3 configuration

Part Number: TMS320DM8147

Hi

We are planning to change DDR configuration from RevA to RevB design.

In RevA, we have used 2GByte DDR3 in our custom board, with 2 DDR devices of 4Gbit (2x(256Meg*16)); Later on, we replaced these 4 DDR device with 128Meg*16 devices, and we were able to achieve our required functionality.

Hence, we have decided to go with total 1GByte DDR3 in our RevB boards.

To do this, we are planning to use only 2 SDRAM chips, instead of 4; to reduce the component cost.

To achieve this, we are planning to use only 1 DDR3 bank, instead of 2.

Please let me know if there are any concerns in this configuration. Also let us know, will there be any issues in terms of access time, due to this configuration.

Regards

Sushruta
